I agree with Alice.

Normally I drink cold water out of the faucet and at home don't even bother with filters (San Francisco) but up there on a plane, enclosed space, who knows what air-spreading bacteria everybody's sharing, who knows what kind of water, how long was it in that bottle, what the ice is made of...

Besides, the water they give is not enough for me! And they are never there when I need to take a pill. NEVER!!

On the plane, order sparkling water, with no ice. It comes in a can. Or canned juice or pop...

We are flying to San antonio out of Omaha in the morning. I just repacked our bags. Can I carry my purse or does it have to be a clear bag? Can I take a Camara, PSP or books? This sure cme at a great time!

Some info if you want to change your flight:

http://blogs.usatoday.com/sky/

Scan down a bit and you'll find a link to excellent Q&A.

I've never felt safer getting on a plane than did last yr from London Heathrow(not long after the Underground attacks there) .At least 5 checkpoints, body search, id search, carry on luggage hand search (as well as the x-ray thing). No wonder these terrorists had to try to smuggle on ibomb making stuff in innocuous looking liquids.

If these items are potentially so dangerous, why weren't they banned before? Who was in charge, Michael Brown?

tracys2cents? These items aren't being disallowed because they are dangerous. But if these containers are emptied and filled with liquid explosive, that's entirely different. That's the reason these things are being prohibited.

But what I don't get is the fact that there is talk of "false bottoms" on these containers, so making someone drink out of a baby bottle doesn't really guarantee anything.

Here's another thing I just thought of:

What about Cameras and film????

I heard the x-ray machines that check your check-in luggage can destroy your film. Can those who are travelling from the UK put their undeveloped film in the clear bags? Or are they out of luck and all their photos will be destroyed?

Yes, but wouldn't the false bottom show up on X-ray and warrant further inspection?

Cameras, film, cellphones, laptops, and even makeup has to go in checked baggage according to what I just heard on t.v. I wonder how they are going to make checked baggage "secure" and how many of these items will not be in your suitcase when you pick it up. Very Interesting to say the least.

See, tracy, the problem is that both law enforcement and the criminals have brilliant ideas. And the terrorists sometimes are crazy enough to die for thos ideas. There's no way to predict everything- and international terrorist attacks aren't the only worry. Oklahoma City? Columbine?

Friend of my dad's once said- hey, if they really wanted to send the Western US into chaos, they'd bomb the damns.

It's a scary, scary world...

Tracy, they may not have known exactly what the bombs consisted of until they raided the homes, found the suicide tapes, etc. Also, why would they ban miscellaneous liquids on airplanes to give their surveillance away?! The sophistication of their bombs is in the fact that they mix average everyday stuff like hydrogen peroxide, acetone, etc. My wife might carry-on some of that stuff, as might others.

yeah and our wonderful Homeland Security should have thought of this four YEARS ago! They never considered that someone could carry a dangerous liquid on board in a bottle? What are we paying them for? Sitting around waiting to get outsmarted again?

tracy, I just posted in the Airlines forum that this exact scenario was foiled in 1994: the Oplan Bojinka plot, out of the Philippines. They were planning to smuggle liquid/gel bombs onto 11 trans-Pacific jetliners and blow them up. Sounds familiar, no? The main masterminds are in jail (one of the financiers was a guy named Osama bin Laden-- whose family includes long-standing friends and business partners of the Bushes...).

Yet liquids were safe on airplanes until yesterday. This whole thing frosts me...!!

OK, perhaps someone has done it, but I'll predict the next step: fly naked; no baggage, and only after a three hour cavity search.
Buen viaje.

THREE HOURS! I want to meet that man, Mikemo!;-)

Thanks, rjw, I am going to Airline forum to read more.

Tracey, I am just happy that Scotland Yard foiled THIS plan. If I think too much about it, I get angry too.
