Sometimes I'd prefer no carry-on luggage to the selfish idiots' who rudely schlep huge rollers on to planes, rollers so heavy they can't even lift them into the overheads.
Check your bags, people, particularly if you're too weak to lift them.
(And, please, don't whine about lost luggage. Less than 1% of luggage is "lost"; you have a better chance slipping in the lavatory and cracking open your selfish & rude head.)

With small children, I'd be more worried about the ban on bringing snacks and drinks than the ban on DVD players. What a hassle trying to feed and water a small child on a long flight with only the stuff provided by the airline. Heck, I don't even want to eat most of the stuff they provide.

Whoa, wait... take a breath... As of this morning, books, computers, cell phones, DVDs etc. are allowed on domestic US flights and on flights from the US going overseas. It's only on flights leaving from British airports that the severe restrictions are being applied. It's only liquids etc. in carryons that are being pulled.

Thanks Gardyloo.
But...US flights to London are at night, so we really wouldn't need all the bells and whistles - I am hoping we will all sleep. (I know, this might be wishful thinking, but a girl can dream, can she? Hopefully??)
It's the return flight from London I'm worried about - that's during the day and when we would need all the help we can get!

If these bans continue, I wonder if the airlines will be forced to change their service, i.e. provide more drinks and snacks (either by purchase or just compliminetary) - or refigure more of their planes to have those built in TVs.
I've never been on a plane with built in TVs - what type of programming do you have to choose from? Can you bring your own DVDs?

Karens, no you cannot use your own DVD. It's inflight satellite tv. Mostly reruns of sitcoms, HGTV or Foodnetwork, some movies, and news. Enough to keep kids occupied.
Inflight service mainly begins after the aircraft reaches cruising altitude and is sometimes interrupted.
With each alert, costs go up and not down. Don't expect the airlines to "add" anything to service.

Someone said that their lipstick and mascara were confiscated. Are these considered "liquid/cream"??? What about solid deode? I wish they would publish a list of EVERYTHING! We are leaving tomorrow and guess I will have to check anything that is not totally solid!
What about my spare contacts that are in solution???

Yes, my wife phoned from her seat on a NW plane a couple of hours ago and said her traveling companion had her mascara, lipstick, sunblock, a little shampoo bottle (and something else? Don't recall...) confiscated. Don't know about dry deodorant I assume contact solution would also fall into that category. Probably there are hundreds of TSA inspectors learning on the job (so what else is new?) as we speak, so don't expect complete uniformity.
This too shall pass.

LOL, jag...if some people had their way around here, they'd like to see small children checked at the gate.
What if the kid is over 70lbs? Will they still allow me to check him in?
Interesting new meaning to the phrase "Lost Luggage"!

I can't believe they're not allowing bottled water. With the bacteria levels in airline water and the completely unfathomable fact that airlines will give you a can of soda but not a bottle of water, how in the world are we supposed to stay hydrated inflight? I kow I get really dry and don't feel well when I don't have water, even on a short flight!
On the plus side, there's no way these strict restrictions will stick around...Remember what was restricted in '01 - now look at the list!

Are they really making people taste liquids if they are allowed on?
What about formula and breast milk (in bottles)?? Formula can't be opened to taste - it will go bad in an hour...same with breast milk (can't intrduce bacteria from the mouth and then let is sit around). And what about the ice packs needed to keep the milk cold??
Clearly they will have to work the kinks out. And apprently Americans will be forced to get used to mom's breastfeeding their babies on planes as they will have no alternative ways to feed them.

Let's take a deep breath... count till 10... think of it: compare to 5 years ago, NO LIVES LOST!! Bravo, British Police!
My flight is in a month from now... if they won't allow me to bring my own water bottle then, I'll make a special baby formula, sip it at the gate to assure it's digestable, and let them figure out what makes me so happy.
Now, anybody knows what goes better with the baby formula: scotch or brandy?

Faina- I vote for scotch!!
My husband and I both travel a lot for work.( He travels abroad a lot... and the middle east several times/yr) We are thankfulthat we are both at home for the next couple of weeks. The new security measures are going to be so time consuming.
I can't even fathom the horror if these horrible animals weren't caught.

Yes they have a bottle on the cart that they pour from but its usually just a refilled bottle and full of bacteria, among other things. Haven't you seen those articles and science projects that test airplane water. The only time I've ever been given my own bottle is first class. I usually fly Alaska though so maybe it's only that airline. They're pretty good about their food and beverage service though so that would surprise me if others were offering it...
