No Cabs in Santa Fe

On ride from airport, driver said the only cab company is gone. Lyft and Huber are getting popular.

Also, there is a free shuttle for the historic areas.

FYI

Oh -- I wasn't commenting re your info - which is useful. But just saying there apparently haven't been cabs for quite a while.

We were there in March. We mostly walked, took an Uber once and also used the free shuttle which we discovered quite by accident. Interesting about the taxi situation.

It's ok, janisj, I would have tried out my Lyft account first had I known. Fortunately, the area is
walkable. Front desk gave me the shuttle info, socal. Used it once so far. Did you find the stops well marked?

Thanks for the heads up, TDudette. I have mostly driven in SF or taken the Rail Runner from Albq and walked in SF. Would never have known and would probably have assumed cabs were available if I needed one.

We only took the shuttle once, from the Capitol back to our hotel area. We were the only people on it, and got some nice stories from the driver. Early March is very quiet in Santa Fe.

Thanks for this info. So, does that mean if people without Smart Phones want a cab or ride to somewhere while in Santa Fe, they're just out of luck?

I used Uber to/from the airport in Santa Fe recently. But, I discovered that drivers can work for both Uber and Lyft, but that Lyft is less expensive. I learned this because I called a driver using Uber, and discovered the exact same driver, car and trip would have been less if I'd called him as a Lyft driver. That's what the driver told me. Download the Lyft app to your phone.

no, they can use gogo grandparent which is an intermediary. If adds about $2 per ride.

As the week progresses, I can now say there are 2 free shuttle routes. One loop includes the Plaza; the other Museum Hill. They share a stop near the state house. City busses to near (1 block) Plaza. I saw a purple taxi yesterday....it may be a shuttle for a hotel.

Hope your trip is going well, and if you hit Kakawa Chocolate that it is as good as I recall.

We just returned from a road trip that included parts of eastern New Mexico within 60 crow-fly miles of Santa Fe. A different world out there. Fewer choices for one thing.
