Nice resort or hotel plus the great outdoors?

OK, I admit that we are spoiled. We would like a nice place to stay while we explore a national park or other great outdoor area this summer. We loved the Post Hotel when we were in Lake Louise. Is there anything like that here in the states? Glacier NP looks like a great place to visit but the accomodations sound awful. We've been to the Grand Canyon and I'm sure Yosemite is booked up. We want to be west of the Missippi and away from the heat. Any suggestions?

Don't laugh, but there's a nice ranch called the Slip and Slide (or Slip N Slide) that is convenient to Yellowstone. My stepdaughter and her youg family spent some time there and loved it. It's not posh, but it was beautiful and rustic place, and of course the view was amazing from every window. Do a web search for them. I think they might be in the Bozeman area.

While we were in Glacier Park on the Canadian side (called Waterton), we stayed in a wonderful place - Waterton Lake Lodge. Jetted tubs, luxurious robes, well-appointed suites. We enjoyed the conviences of the town setting inside the national park, as well as some bear and moose sightings. I would highly recommend the Canadian part of Glacier. Take the boat from Prince of Whales Inn to some great hikes. Very uncrowded. We saw a mother moose with her baby on my birthday. Wonderful gift! Also, a tour and tea at the Prince of Whales Lodge was memorable. Enjoy!
