NIAGARA FALLS

I've heard that when visiting Niagara Falls, its nicer to stay on the Canadian side. I've seen several references to Sheraton hotels on thw Canadian side of Niagara Falls, but it wasn't clear which one was the preferred facility. My wife and I are retirees who are planning to stay in Niagara Falls for 2 nights in mid August. We have a reservation at the Sheraton Fallsview in Ontario. Is this hotel appropriate for adults without children? Is it really at the edge of the Falls. Also, is it worth the the extra $50 per night for a room with a "Falls View" or is a "City View" room satisfactory, since you can probably view the falls from right near the hotel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I would recommend staying on the Canadian side ... but be sure to venture to the American side to view the falls from there ... also lines for Maid of the Mist are usually shorter on the American side. I would also recommend the extra $50 for a "falls view" versus "city view" room. It will be a beautiful view with a different perspective than you can get from the ground ... the city view is not very impressive. (The Sheraton is right near the falls and should be appropriate for adults.)

I also recommend that you check the Canadian message forum, and do a search for "Niagara Falls" ... you will find lots of useful information.

A Falls view room is nice but I am not sure it is worth the extra $50 unless the room has a balcony. Ask youself - how much time will I spend looking out the Window. The hotel is as close as you can get to the river but the Falls are abouit 1/3 of a mile away - a10 minute walk.
The hotel is on the corner of one of the busiest streets in the city.

There are at least three Sheratons in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The Sheraton Fallsview is just behind Horseshoe Falls. The views are just fine. However, it's located up a steep hill and quite the walk to and from the falls area unless the Incline Railway happens to be running when you're coming/going.

To me, the views from the Sheraton ON THE FALLS are superior, in fact, the best of any of the fallsview hotels. This Sheraton is located right across from Maid of the Mist, an excellent location, and requires only a short, sort of uphill, walk from the falls area.

Whether it's worth the extra $50 for the view is your call. But, before reserving a room with a view, ask if the view includes the huge construction sight of the new casino and Hyatt.

For sure there are any number of ways to enjoy the falls while out and about. We only booked a fallsview room this last trip for the first time, and we loved it. Looking out over the falls as the sun rose, staring at them whenever, watching the sun set over the falls, enjoying the rainbows, and catching the light show just before jumping into bed, well we loved it.

Here's a tip, though. No guarantees, but often you can upgrade to a fallsview room (if there are any available) for far less at check-in that the rate quoted when you book way ahead.

I recently stayed at the Seraton Fallsview - the view was spectacular! We were only planning to spend 1 night so we splurged on the 2-story loft room with a view - and BOY what a view it was!! We reserved online for the one night, and received an ad saying we could have a 2nd night for $60CDN. For that price, you bet we stayed another night!
