Newport, RI- Restaurants???

I am deciding between the Canfield House or the Spiced Pear for a romantic dining experience on New Year's eve in NewPort, Rhode island- Any comments on either one? thanks.

Castle Hill Inn. If you stay thru midnight you can catch the fireworks from their lawn.

In case you're not thoroughly convinced: Spiced Pear, first choice. Castle Hill, second choice. Both have spectacular views, both offer fantastic dining experiences but in my opinion, however, Spiced Pear is a bit more au courant.

My husband and I stopped into the Canfield House, as we've heard that in it's heyday (15 years ago?) it was quite a place....today think: bloated, aged, and very outdated-preppy. Dated decor. Boring, uninspired menu.

Foods a bit more interesting and more costly at the Spiced pear but the fireworks at Castle Hill will be outstanding - I know you didn't ask.
The Black pearl would also offer an exc. meal and put you in a nice walk around area around the harbor.

I agree with others in that the Canfield house can be a bit stodgy. Great chartobrau (destroyed spelling - sorry)is excellent, though.
Enjoy!
