Newport Beach in January

We were thinking of coming to Disneyland in Late Jan 2006 for three nights and maybe do 3 nights or so in Newport Beach. I was talking to someone, who can tell some tall tales, who claims that he has been there 3 times in January and never got a day below 75, where he has also gone in April, a secondary choice for us, and he claims it never got to 75 degrees. Thought I'd like some other feedback. We not expecting to swim in the ocean but might like to be able to sit on the beach.

Our weather in January can do almost anything, from 85 and sunny to 59 and raining. Chances are good that it will be pretty - no smog or fog that time of year. You might want to see what the extended forecast is when you get here, I don't think hotels will be filled that time of year.

I agree with gigib - it is entirely possible that the temps in January in So Calif can be almost summer-like. Or bitterly cold (for us So. Californians, anyway). So, it could be your friend did hit a time when it was very warm in January, yes. And then, you might get here and have nothing but rain and cold. It's a very unpredictible time of year.

April can be the same. It can be very warm or somewhat cool. Sorry, but So Calif is just not that predictible, except in summer. Then we know it's going to be very hot and very dry. The rest of the year is open.

Thanks for the help and advice. It looks like he may have been telling it straight. His timing may have been right.

As others have said, January can be very warm or cold and rainy. This year was unusual with all the rain however January is historically one of the rainiest months. The rainy season in So. Cal is Nov-March/April. Although we can get rain in April, you probably have less chance of rain than in January.
