Newark Airport to Lower East side...Transport???

Hi all

can anyone please let me know the best options I have to get from the airport to the LES.

I am thinking of Uber share...trying to keep cost down so was thinking of options other than a taxi. Are there shuttle services anyone can recommend???

any ideas.. first time doing this.

An uberX right now is going for $51 and Lyft is $47, but it's early Sunday and demand is probably low & supply high. Peak hours that price could double or more but you'd have to check for yourself.

I think Uber/Lyft is going to be your best bet. If you happen to find an Uber share when you are there then great. I always compare both services as the prices over time, and between the two can vary greatly.

Newark airport does have an Amtrak station attached to it by a monorail system. There are about 7 Northeast Regional trains per day from EWR to New York Penn station where you can get on the subway to LES. Fare is in the $22-$30 range per person.

To keep costs down you could take the airport shuttle ($18.70) either to the west side or to Grand Central station, depending on which subway is the most convenient to your East Side destination.

From the bus company’s official web site:
Getting to Newark Airport
Passengers can board our Newark Airport Express shuttle at three convenient mid-Manhattan locations: Port Authority Bus Terminal (41st St between 8th and 9th Avenues), Grand Central Station (41st St between Lexington & Park), and Bryant Park (42nd St & 5th Ave).

If the primary consideration is cost, forget uber and go with either the bus or train into the city, then using either subway or taxi to get to your LES destination.

Uber would not necessarily be faster than the bus given that both deal with the same traffic conditions.

Take a train directly from EWR to Penn Station. Then taxi, uber.

One person traveling, train makes economical sense. Our family of four and a 6am EWR flight, Uber was the choice.

You should have no problem getting a cab outside Grand Central Station.
