New York this weekend

I'll be in NY this weekend (through Tuesday) and could use a few ideas. My daughter who is 19 and I will be traveling up on Saturday and staying at my brother's on West 67th Street. Any recommendations for Saturday night? I was considering either Top of the Rock and dinner somewhere in mid-town, or hanging out on the UWS, having dinner and then I'm not sure. Any suggestions for UWS on Saturday night?

I have tickets Sunday at 3 for Spelling Bee (Broadway and 50th St), and then I'd love to find somewhere to watch the Giants/Eagles game (go, Eagles!) in that neighborhood. Also, does anyone know if the Columbus Ave flea market on Sunday mornings is open in the winter?

Monday I have tickets at 8PM for "Room Service" at the SoHo Theater. I'm thinking we should go down to that area in the afternoon. Is Canal Street close to here? The directions say to take the #1 train to Houston for the theater. And can anyone recommend a restaurant for pre-theater dining?

We're going home Tuesday, but have time to do something before we go in mid-afternoon. I've never been to the Frick Museum, so maybe we'll do that. I'm also toying with the idea of splurging a little and having facials somewhere on Monday (worst day of the week for open salons though), so if you have any thoughts on that, let me know. Actually, maybe we could do that on Tuesday before we go home. Thanks.

The Frick is an excellent idea. Not only is it a world class art museum, you get to see what one of those Fifth Avenue mansions looks like!

I am a complete spa junkie so here are my suggestions for facials (all open on Mondays)Mario Badescu (no frills facial) http://nymag.com/listings/beauty/mar...scu/index.html, and Bliss Spa (great spa experience!) http://www.blissworld.com/spa/

Thanks for the comments. I might try Mario Badescu.

Anyone have an idea on a moderate place to eat in SoHo?

If there's just going to be the 2 of you, then I would suggest getting down to W. Broadway near Broome/Grand and walking around there...there's some fun international places that are a bit of a scene but usually good food. Half the fun of SoHo is walking around checking the menus out and just jumping in. Also good area for brunch.

For the other restaurant suggestions, just give a better idea of what you want to eat, what you want to spend, and if it's going to be a large group.

For salons, try Sheckys.com and DailyCandy.com. They always have good suggestions, it seems.

Moderate:

Peep - this would be my top pick for reasonable Thai food with a really cool atmosphere (Prince b/t Thompson & Sullivan)

Cubana Cafe - really reasonable Cuban Food, cute atmosphere (Thompson b/t Prince & Sullivan)

Nagomi - good sushi (Prince b/t Thompson & Sullivan)

Jean Claude - cute bistro (Sullivan b/t Spring & Prince)

Broome Street Bar - classic burger place, kind of divey (W. Broadway & Broome)

Arturo's - favorite neighborhood pizza, live music during dinner (Houston & Thompson, north side of the street),

There are 10,000 restuarants in Manhattan alone, so the choices are endless. I would suggest getting a Zagat, so no matter where you are in the city, you can find something wonderful, as the guide is listed by areas of the city.

SoHo is a bit of a walk to Chinatown, but certainly doable, straight down Broadway to Canal, lots of shopping all along Broadway too. Turn left on Canal St and you will be heading toward Chinatown. I would suggest dinner at Peking Duck, which is one of the best restaurants in the area, good service and the Peking Duck is legend.

The weather here this weekend is going to be amazingly warm so I would bet some of the restaurants in the city will reopen outdoor cafes. Sat will be in the 70's!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF you are looking for a really good Italian restaurant on the UWS, Pomodoro is my favorite, on Columbus and 71st. Good service, food and cute atmosphere. They make their own foccia bread all night long.

Have a GREAT time.

Thanks, everyone! Yes, it will be just the two of us, and I guess I'd like to keep dinners no more than $80 for the two of us. We love bistros so I'll look into Jean Claude, Lizzie.

Now my most important question: where can I watch the Eagles game, either in the theater district or on the UWS? Thanks for any ideas.

I think Jean-Claude has a prix-fixe in the evening, so that might be perfect. There are always a lot of French people in there when I go, so hopefully that means it's extra-authentic . Look on www.menupages.com to see menus and reviews.

The Eagle's game will be on a lot of places, but you probably want to watch it with like-minded fans.

Town Tavern is a great bar in the W. Village and it's also an Eagle's bar. I realize this is in neither of the neighborhood's you've mentioned.

On the UWS, there are a TON of sports bars. The entire strip of Amsterdam b/t 79th and 84th is all sports bars. Brother Jimmie's is a fun place with BBQ and lots of tvs. Blondie's, 79th & Amsterdam is also a lot of fun. You probably need to call today to get a reservation for Sunday, as this game is going to be HUGE!!! Wherever you go, go early.

I'll be cheering for the Eagle's too (BF is a fan).

Thanks, Lizzie. I can't go early; I probably won't even see the kickoff because my theater tickets are for 3:00.

I probably will go back up to the UWS; I won't be a very vocal fan since I will be in enemy territory. Go, Eagles!

If you just walk along Amsterdam in near those side streets, you'll have no problem finding one of many sports bars to pop into. It's the more popular ones that require early arrival. I'm glad you like the neighborhood! I used to live at 82nd b/t CPW & Columbus, and I miss it!

To answer your question about the Columbus Ave. Greenmarket - yes, it's open year round on Sundays b/t 10 and 5.
