New York - St Patrick's Day

Are there any hotels where you can book a room with a good view of the parade?

You're almost too late to book any decent priced hotel at this time. Availability is already getting tight at many hotels.

There are not very many hotels overlooking Fifth Avenue - and even in those hotels most rooms won;t overlook the parade (either on the side or back of the hotel - or on a floor too high to have a view of the street).

I'm afraid any place with a view of the street is long booked - and probably at a very high price.

You might try the Peninsula (right on Fifth) and the St Regis (right off fifth - but I think some rooms might give a view). In any case - understand that you will be paying extra if you want a room with a guaranteed view. And get that part in writing.

If it makes you feel better, I don't think looking out a hotel window down onto the parade several stories below would be that great anyway. You need to be outside and at the same level to fully appreciate it.

This is not a parade like the Thanksgiving parade with huge balloons that are visible from up high. This is a parade of people, and viewing it from a high building is not the way to do it. You'd need to be on Fifth Ave. b/w 44th & 86th st. where the hotels are mostly very expensive.

Agree that this is a people.s parade. If you're more than 3 or so stories up you won;t see anything. This parade is all about the marchers (more than a million strong) and the watchers (ditto). If you're not close enough to hear the bands/bagpipe corps and see the uniforms/costumes - there's little to really see.
