New York shopping

We are going to New York next weekend. Any suggestions for discounts on designer fashions? We will be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Century 21 (downtown) & Daffy's (midtown) are rather popular for such things. If you are interested in sample sales and such, stop at a news stand and pick up a copy of Time Out NY as they have a weekly section about designer sales happening in the city.

A recent New York Magazine featured all the shopping in the city.. one section was discounters. I bought it as a 'save' but don't have it in front of me. It was recent, thought, within the last month or so

Go to the two locations of Filene's Basement. If you only have time for one, go to the across the street from Zabar's. You can get some great deals there.

Loehmann's - 101 7th Ave @ 16th Street. If you're taking the subway, both the 14th St stop on the 1/9/2/3 line and the 7th Ave (L line) stop are close.

If you're in the neighbourhood anyway, and some of your party are in the 20s-30s age range (or dress like it), you might be interested in a look at Barney's Co-Op, 236 W 18th @ 7th Ave. It's not a discount place, but it showcases newer and less-well-known designers and is relatively inexpensive by designer clothing standards (although still far from cheap).

Why in the world would you goto NYC to shop? Can't you get the same junk in your own city (unless, you live in a small town)??

If you find the time, go to Jersey Gardens. Take a bus from Port Authority (about $4pp)

They have Daffy's, Filene, Burlington Coat Factory (not only coats!). The difference is in New Jersey you pay NO TAX on clothing.

The savings do add up if you plan to spend a bit.

NB: only 3.5% on food!

Hey James Turner, you might be disappointed. I can't think of one store in NY that sells Sansabelt pants, pink sportcoats, and white belts and bucks.

Century 21 is a must...on Cortland St, off Broadway way down near the Wall St., WTC site area. Lots of fun finding that incredible designer bargain (Prada shoes, D&G shirts, Armani, etc.) You won't be disappointed.

Century 21 is full of rubbish - take time to visit Woodbury Common - you get your tickets frm Port Authority - it is about 1 hour from NYC - well worth the trip - loads of designer bargains to be had!!

Since you will only be here for three days, I would imagine you want to stay IN the city to shop. Here are my fav streest, there are so many small boutiques & great shops, I won't name them individually. Have a great time!
Saks Fifth-big sale still going on
Soho-Elizabeth St, Spring St, Prince St, W Broadway, Grand.
Of course-Century 21
You never know if there are some good sale racks out at Barneys on the East Side, if you have time, check it out..besides, it is fun to browse through anyway.
