Shopping? NEW YORK
I've heard some things about cheap designer wear, and/or knock off designer wear. Where can I find these.(besides chinatown) Also, a friend of mine really wants a Rolex...Can I get a real one for cheap, & can I get in trouble for buying it??

First, you will not get a real rolex cheap. That being said, I always buy the knowck offs when I'm in NY. They look good and last about 1 1/2 - 2 years. Head down to SOHO. Can can find all kinds of knock offs. NEVER pay the asking price. A fake rolex can be gotten for $20 (ladies for $15). Sunglasses for $3-5. Half the fun is trying to get the price below what you are willing to pay. Just remember, no matter what they say or how good the stuff looks, IT'S FAKE!

You might also want to grab a copy of New York Magazine and take a look at the listing of samples sales in the back (right after the Best Bets section?). That's a good way to get *real* designer items at a good price.

La, I wish there were such things as cheap Rolex ~ They have fake all kinds of watches and things on Canal street!
Also on Madison Ave in the 80's and around Bloomingdales in the E60's.
Century 21 is good for designer discounts..
If you like Burberry , you will have fun in Soho, it seems to be the most popular Knock-off these days! Hats, scarves, bags..after a while, so much plaid, makes me think of geeks in high school, know what I mean ?

Just so you know before you buy, the profits for many of the designer knock-off's go to organized crime. Chinease gangs manufacture these products using illegal immigrant labor that work in sweatshop conditions, often times as a payment for their debt in coming to this country.
There is also strong evidence that the counter-fitting of luxury goods has been used as a terrorist funding source.

Ryan, thank you!! I have pointed out the very same facts here on other threads, and been roundly scoffed at. But anyone who cares to can check reputable sources, such as the New York Times, CNN, etc., and read all about it. Most of the vendors of fakes may be innocent immigrants trying to make a buck, but the organizations behind them are bad juju. (I won't even get into society's addiction to meaningless, overpriced brand names.)

I know it won't make a damn bit of difference to those who have to have a fake Rolex or Prada or Hermes, but I'm with Ryan and E. Knock-offs are theft, plain and simple -- theft of the brand name that belongs to the company that built it.
