New York Next Year
Hi guys,
I'm planning on visiting New York next year and I was hoping that you guys can suggest affordable hotels around Manhattan please. I know that Beacon has been highly recommended but it will take me another two years to save for it (just checked the prices now). I'm from South Africa so the exchange rate is not kind to me
. I'm willing to pay $150 for a night. I will be travelling alone (learned that planning with some people won't get the job done as we have different priorities). I want to go for my birthday as I'm turning 35 *breathing heavily* next year (now who would have thought...God!).
*Side Note - I don't want to use Airbnb. I did it while in London last year and I don't think I'm comfortable staying with someone. The hotel is freedom.
Thanks, Your help is really appreciated.

With a budget that low you will either need to visit at low season (Jan and Feb will be cold - but certainly doable) - or look at something like the Jane - with tiny rooms and I believe some shared baths.
If you want spring yuo might get something on Priceline
but you have to bid not knowing the hotel and often can;t get more than 3 or so nights in a row.
When do you want to be here and for how long?

That's really, really low but possible at some times of the year if you are willing to make sacrifices.
If you are willing to share a bath, there are some affordable options in Manhattan (the Pod Hotel, the Larchmont, the Jane), and depending on the time of the year (Jan./Feb) you could almost have your pick of rooms in mid-range hotels for that price. You can almost always get a hotel room in Long Island City, Queens, for that rate (Country Inn & Suites).
The city also has hostels, but I think they are not suitable for a 35 year-old.
And you can have the option of bidding on Priceline, but that price is unlikely except during low season (Jan/Feb, early March, and perhaps Aug). You are unlikely to find any room in Manhattan for that price from April through June and September through December.

Try Long Island City a lot of the hotels are only 1 or two stops away from Manhattan, we stayed at Country Inn & Suites for $139.00 a night in November last year. A short walk to the subway and a quick trip to Manhattan. Go for it Sethati79.
