New York City Hotel Help

A few years ago we stayed at the Presidental Hotel on 48th street for $89 a night. Now it is near $400. Does anyone know of a hotel in Midtown New York City that is reasonably priced? We're not really fussy but like a safe, clean hotel. Thanks

If you go to the search function and put "hotels" and "New York" you will find literally thousands of suggestions.

An $89 room is a thing of the past, unless the room sells by the hour. Depending on the time of the year, $400 is a good deal.

A few years ago? Like how many? If you mean the Best Western President, it's still an ok budget hotel but now budget means $200-250/night (if you're lucky) unless you bid on Priceline or can find a special on travelzoo.com that fits your dates. Radiocityapartments.com is a great deal but usually booked solid.

Thanks for the quick response. I actually did just search what posters have said in the past and found it very helpful. I don't know why I posted before doing that.

The Pod hotel has been getting pretty good reviews- and if you're willing to do bunk beds and shared bath the rates are very good.

I stayed at the Broadway Inn in June and found it very acceptable for a "budget" (probably $200 a night for a queen room) hotel. 46th and 8th Ave, just 2 blocks from Times Square

VERY no frills but also very cheap and in a good location if you like the upper west side (Riverside Drive & 80th) is the Riverside Tower Hotel

http://www.riversidetowerhotel.com/

This was just recommended to me by a friend -- her friend stayed there and thought it was fine. I haven't checked it on TripAdvisor et al though, so I'm not making a personal recommendation.

There seem to be suites with kitchens and bathrooms and some that share a kitchen and bathroom.

Hmmmmm...I just read the first half dozen or so trip adviser reviews on the Riverside Towers. You'll have to decide for yourself on this one.

I'm pretty sure that my sister-in-law and brother-in-law stayed at the Riverside Towers during my wedding almost 7 years ago. They weren't that impressed, although it is a good location. I'd be inclined to go with the Pod Hotel over that simply because it is brand new.

I'd suggest the Hotel Grand Union, which is quite nice AND well priced. The hotel is located on E 32nd ST. www.hotelgrandunion.com

Also try 30/30 which is located at 30 E 30th ST.

Also look at priceline and see if you can get a decent hotel for a reasonable price there.

The Riverside Towers is a dump and gets mostly terrible reviews on tripadvisor. It's certainly not very central either. A hosted apartment stay (staying in someone's apt. with them but with your own private bedroom/bathroom) is one low cost option. citylightsnewyork.com is one such service.

If you're willing to deal with a shared bathroom, there are a number of good options including larchmonthotel.com which also has a family suite with private bath and
At chelsealodge.com you share the toilet but have your own sink and shower in the room.
