You're kidding, right? Maybe if you told us what it looked like, what it was near or gave some clue we could guess. Btw, what was the "it" restaurant a few years ago may not be so great now. Why not tell us what kind of Italian you like, budget etc. and we can offer some options.

I thought it was a long shot! We like light, vegetarian pasta dishes. $30 entrees. We will be staying near the Guggenheim. Thanks

Pascalou is right near where you're staying (the Wales?) but doesn't have a big selection of veg. pasta dishes.

I think Due is one of the better Italians on the UES. I also like Lumi. Sfoglia is the "hot" Italian in the area but I've been underwhelmed. Eriminia is also very good (but very pricey). Have a look at them all on menupage.com.

Manhattan has thousands of Italian restaurants.

By far, the two best options on the UES are Spigolo and Sfoglia. Both were well-reviewed by Frank Bruni and both are tough to get in to, so call ahead for reservations.

I eat at Sfoglia about once a week and it is extraordinary. Do NOT miss the "brick" chicken. Ask your server.

There are so many Italian restaurants in NY it's hard to tell. If you remember the address you can try locating it with

I can recommend Puttanesca Italian Restaurant if you dont find the one you've been to before. I love their pastas but all food is great.

aduchamp1 - And if he eats at the bar, he can sit between both of them!

I LOVE Spigolo (81st and 2nd). I would eat at the bar if I couldn't get a table.
