The Super Shuttle will work, but for a less expensive alternative try the New York Express Bus service, which costs $10pp. It makes 2 stops in NYC -- Grand Central and Port Authority Bus Terminal where you pick up a shuttle to your hotel. The express bus leaves outside baggage claim -- ask someone if you don't see the sign.

I have taken the Super Shuttle in LA and SF with great success. The one time I took it from Manhattan to LaGuardia it was a disaster; arrived late, drove all over town picking people up doubling back and taking forever. It cost almost as much as a taxi. I'd go with the bus that Al mentions or if you want to really save money you can take a city bus from the airport to the subway for a grand total of $1.50 (about a 45 minute trip.)

No, it's not the Carey bus. I forget the exact name but it's called something like New York Airport Express. At the Delta terminal you need to turn right after exiting baggage claim and walk to the end. There's a sign, or ask for directions at the information desk.

Probably the best thing to do is go to www.panynj.gov, click on airports, laguardia etc. and all the transportation options are listed.

Use the Subway! Well actually if yu are coming from La Guardia, The LIRR is close, and goes to Penn Station. If you are going from JFK take the A train, which is o.k. based on speed. P.S. The AirTrain should be opem by 2003 which could take you to the LIRR.

I agree with Al. We took the airport shuttle from JFK to Mid town and we made several stops and had the cooks tour because of lousy traffic he said. Our transportation out of Manhattan was wonderful. Just south of Grand central Station between 41st & 42nd. It was a great bus , aircinditioned that took us directly to JFK and it was cheaper than the van airport shuttle. Only way to go.

DO NOT use the SuperShuttle in NYC!!!!!
I too, had a great experience with them in SF, and thought it would be the same here in NYC. NO WAY!!! The problem? They pick-up about 3 other passengers besides you, with NO REGARD to where in Manhattan these people are. You can be going from the Upper West Side, then to the Financal District, then to Midtown, all in one trip. So if you are the 1st passenger to be piecked-up, you canbe wasting about 1 1/2 driving around Manhattan!! No, kidding, this is what happend to me. It took 2 3/4 hours to get to kennedy airport, from the time i was picked up. And they are not that cheap to begin with.
You are much better off using the bus service, I think they are called NY air service. They charge one about $10-$11 one way.

I've used the NYExpressAirportService and the bus/subway combo. If you're carrying more than 1 carryone-sized bag, then DON'T use bus/subway. If you do take it, remember you need exact CHANGE (no paper) on the bus, or better, purchase a Metrocard in the Hudson News shops in the baggage claim areas.
If you've got plenty of time, yes, use the bus/subway, or even bus/bus. The ExpressAiportService is great, and has plenty of in-cabin and under-bus storage space, and as mentioned, stop at GCT and PA BusTerminal. I think Carey used to do this service, but no longer. BTW, purchase ROUND trip with them ahead of time and save $$, plus you can transfer at GCT to smaller buses that will take you to most midtown hotels.

Thanks for the help. Definitely not using the super shuttle! Where do I find the NYExpressAirportService at LaGuardia to purchase tickets and board?
Can I just take that to Grand Central or Penn and grab a cab to my midtown hotel? I don't really feel like schlepping bags on the subway....
Muchas gracias. Merci beaucoup. Thanks.

NY Airport Service Express Bus to
Gr. Central Station (42nd ST. eastside) or Port Authority ( 42nd ST. westside) - $10 - $12
Penn Station (34th, westside) $8 - $10
For any of the above, depending on where you are going add at least $5 to $10 for a taxi
Super Shuttle to hotel - $15
A taxi to the city anywhere between 42nd STreet will cost a maximum of $25 with tip and toll. East side destination would be slightly less. A cab would be the fastest way to go and the cost would only be a few dollars more.
Taxi from LGA to my home costs around $18 (uptown, west side).Add tip and toll
and cost is $25. Airport bus to PA and taxi home would cost around $22. THe convenience of the taxi is worth the additional $3. Further, the cab takes less than 30 minutes. Bus, taxi combination will take at least one hour, maybe more.
