New York Christmas report

Just a quick report on the trip to New York. First things first, she saidy "Yes"!!! Upgraded to a mini-suite in Waldorf and I have to say I would definitely recommend the hotel. The only slightly negative point was the 15/20 min wait to check in. Aside from that the hotel is extremely nice. It is NOT a new hotel but neither is it in a state of disrepair. Staff were prompt, courteous and professional. All in all, a very good hotel and great value.

Went to the Rainbow Grill for a bite to eat. The view is amazing and while the food will not blow you away, it is quite nice although basic. The setting would compensate for any standard of food short of McDonalds!!! Also ate at Michael Jordan's Steakhouse in Grand Central and again the food was good and the setting is amazing. Dined at Babbo on Tuesday and this was worth the struggle to get a reservation. Everything you have read and more!! On the last night we went to 21 Club and I have to say I really enjoyed this and would definitely return. Very professional staff and the ambience is powerful.

All in all, a great trip. Weather was amazing. Thanks to all on Fodor's for your advice. It definitely made for a trip to remember.

Happy New Year to all.

Congratulations!

But hey, no details on the proposal?!?!

Where did you end up popping the question?

Best wishes to you both!

I remember this poster - hes the one who asked about ways to propose and we all spilled out every conceivable way to do it in NYC. I think he was leaning towards the carriage in Central Park, right? I was voting for the walk by Tiffany's I think.

So yeah, where's the beef?

Ok, here goes. I did indeed go for the carriage ride in Central Park. Jumped in the first carriage we saw which happened to have an Irish flag flying. I think the fact that it was dark was an advantage because the carriages seemed alot more romantic in the dark. We were snuggled up under the blanket when I popped the question. There were screams and tears and laughter...and she was happy also!!!
After that we made our way back to the hotel and were picked up by a limo for a 2 hour journey around the city while sipping champagne. We got dropped off at Rockefeller and took a look at the tree and then made our way up to the Rainbow Grill.

The next day I had scheduled an appointment at Tiffany & Co. We met with the salesperson I had been dealing with who had a number of rings selected that met the criteria I had provided and bada bing bada boom my credit card went up in smoke!!!

And that was that...next up, wedding planning!!!!

Thanks again to everyone for all of your suggestions.
