New Year's in NYC

My boyfriend and I will be staying in the lower manhattan finacial district for 3 days over New year's eve and we can't seem to find a great bar/pub/blues club. I've searched the Net but I haven't been to NYC before and have no clue what I'm looking for. I know the parties are ranging from 150 on up and that's fine too but I was hoping someone would have a suggestion on places to look or call for reservations. Thanks so much!

Check out the city's site at NYCVisit.com (I think). Also, another good source for downtown is The Village Voice. I think their website is VillageVoice.com. Lastly, Time Out New York for up to date listings.

Ouch, prices will be sky high.

Perhaps you're looking in the wrong neighborhood. The "financial district" will be pretty quiet but Tribeca-not far away-will have some options. Soho is also not too far or even the village-east or west, nolita (north of little italy) or the very trendy meat packing district.

Try also looking on sheckys.com

Blue Note
Irridium
Village Vanguard

You'll have to check the schedules as it can be blues or jazz.

Thank you guys so much for your insight. The Shecky's website has been very helpful, they are even hosting their own party for New Year's Eve. I can't wait to see the city and to ring in the New Year!

I'd be a bit cautious about sheckys own party-sounds a bit commercial to me. I'd probably opt for something a bit smaller (size wise) but thta's just me. Whatever you do, have a great time.

My boyfriend and I still have no plans for NYE, you were right about the Shecky's thing, definately not our style. I'm worried we will be stuck in our hotel room watching the whole thing on TV! Any other suggestions?

Why don't you try Knickerbocker Bar & Grill? You can search on this site and find several postings. McLaurie has also recommended this one. Not a big to do, great food and great jazz. And they are taking reservations.
