Hello montereybob, what type of venue are you looking for? The public celebration (fireworks etc) is along the waterfront. No liquore allowed.

Or were you looking for a hotel NY Eve celebration?

More details about what you have in mind will bring forth a lot of answers I am sure. SF is wonderful during the holidays!

The public celebration along the waterfront sounds great. What part of the waterfront ?

The Embarcadero near the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street.

Hi montereybob, if you go to the waterfront dress warm! And again, they do not allow liquor. Have a fun time. And hopefully it will not be a thick foggy night! Enjoy your holiday time in SF, I am sure you will have lots of fun.

Where are the best views of the fireworks? I was thinking of leading a troup of tourists up Nob Hill but worry that the tall buildings would block the sightlines.

I loved my stay at Vitale across from the Ferry Building, how woud it be for the fireworks? Is it great for the Fourth of July too?

Oh no! What kind of storm? I can deal with rain...as long as there's no lighning or snow involved.

No chance of snow - it's in the 40/50s. Can't promise no lightning!!!

From home I Watched the countdown on Ch 4 KRON last night from the Hyatt Regency, and wish I had been at staying at Hotel Vitale! The view of all the lights and fireworks had to have been spectacular! Are there fireworks from that location on July 4th?

Yes, there are fireworks in that location on Independence Day; however, they're often obscured by fog.
