SORRY I THOUGHT HTML CODE WOULD WORK:
Besides food I am not trying to figure out what tours we should take while we are in New Orleans and what tour companies to use. We will be staying for 5 days.
We are looking for the BEST:
City Tour - thought this might be a good idea to give ourselves an overview of the city
Plantation Tour (really just want to visit Oak Alley as I don't think my husband can handle an 8hr visit 3 plantations. If I should change his mind let me know how??
Swamp Tour - Is it a waste of time???
Are there any tours that visit Battlefields??
Any other TOURS that are a MUST SEE

We took a Gray Line city tour and were very impressed with the amount of information about the city that we received - they also have a short cemetary stop that was enough for us so we didn't have to do that tour. Swamp tours are fun, but only go for 1/2 day - after you're seen one gator, nutria and heron, you've seen them all. Have fun!

Hi Ezmark. I strongly suggest that you include Laura Plantation when visiting Oak Alley. Tours by Isabelle and several other companies offer both houses. Laura is a Creole plantation is where the Brer Rabbit stories originated. In my mind it's much more interesting than Oak Alley.
You can take a riverboat (Natchez) to the Battle of N.O. site. I've been twice and found it to be somewhat disappointing but if you are a history buff then you'll enjoy.
Swamp tours: lots of companies offering similar products. Honey Island gets good marks from most visitors but (of course!) it's the most expensive and farthest from the city even though a bus does pick you up in the French Quarter.

The boat trip down river to the Battle of New Orleans site was worth it for the performance of the park ranger! she must have been going for an Oscar.
I would recommend Chacahoula Swamp Tours, it was a small boat, about 14 people and a very informative captain - Jerry, it's a family run business and they will pick you up in the French Quarter.

Hi again EZMARK. I'd say go with Honey Island for the swamps, and Gray Line for the plantations. What kind of city tour did you want? General, ghosts, voodoo, cemetery, vampire, literary, cocktail history? We've sure got one of everything here! Get back to me and I'll recommend some other favorites.

Gatorlady,
As for city tour I am thinking of a general get to know the area tour on our first day. As for other tours maybe Vampire or Cocktail history (that sounds different).....
As for Plantation we have it narrowed down to a FULL day with Isabell Tours which would include Swamp Tour, Lunch, and Plantation Tour visits to Oak Alley and Laura OR just do the Oak Alley alone through Grayline and then do the Honey Island Swamp tour.
Hubby does want to do a cruise tour if it includes a stop/tour of the Battlefield.
Is a tour of the Garden District worth it? We were thinking of just getting on the St Charles Streetcar and go exploring ourselves.
Let me know your thoughts and thanks so much.

A swamp tour would not be a waste of time, IMO, and I second GatorLady, Honey Island Swamp Tours are the best. There are so-called swamp tours that operate on big boats, provide music and drinks, and those really are a waste of time, as you'll never see any wildlife and you'd party better back in the city. Enjoy!

The tour not to be missed in NOLA is a cemetary tour. We took one through the Voodoo Museum and found it to be one of the most interesting things we did while there.
Make sure you don't go to the cemetaries by yourself though...they are very dangerous
