Anyone with information on any of the following hotels/inns in New Orleans? I checked rants and raves and postings but not much info there. Will be in NO in two weeks.
St. Charles Inn
Avenue Garden Hotel (St. Charles)
Maison St. Charles
The LaFayette Hotel
Omni Royal Orleans
Also what about taking the streetcars late at night? Thanks for any info.

I stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans in Feb 2002. We had a very reasonable price for a queen sized room. The room itself was very small and looked out onto an strange courtyard (not an attractive NO style one). But it was very attractively furnished and fine for a couple. The hotel itself is in a wonderful location - equidistant to Bourbon St and the Jackson Square. Right on Royal St where there are so many beautiful antique stores. There is a roof top pool with views of the river. I would not hesitate to stay again but I would want a king size room next time.

We just returned from New Orleans yesterday and had such a good time I've already made our reservations for next September. Have fun and enjoy the city!

I might add that October is one of the busiest - if not THE busiest - month of the year in NO. You need to make reservations as soon as possible!

I'd do my best to stay in the
Quarter, tho, not on Bourbon...too noisy.
As Bennnie the poster above says
Royal St. may be the place to stay.
I've stayed at the Chateau LeMoyne
(simply because we had mileage vouchers
that worked there....and it was fine)
and also at the Cornstalk, whose
location is wonderful (again, it's on
Royal) but may not suit everyone's
tastes. I loved its funky quality but
must admit the bathrooms were small and
our room opened right onto the main
hallway downstairs. If you're looking
for more amenities then perhaps some
of these others on your list may offer
them. The ability to wander safely and
freely until all hours, as you can in the French Quarter, is magical and not
to be missed.We loved the fact that
we never needed a car. Good luck!

We stayed at the Cornstalk and the location was great - a couple blocks from pretty much everything in the Quarter, but on a quiet block of Royal so we didn't hear any noise from the nightlife. The inn itself was fine. It was definitely funky and the people were nice. There wasn't much in the way of amenities and the rooms were pretty cramped - not that we spent much time in our room anyway so that didn't matter too much. My only real complaints were no place to put toiletries in the bathroom and extra blankets were hard to come by.
