New Orleans Excusions - late Nov.
We're likely to be in New Orleans for 6-7 days bracketing Thanksgiving. Plan to have a car for 3 or 4 days of that and would like suggestions on day trips from NO. We'll definitely go up the River Road and see Laura and Oak Alley, otherwise open to suggestions. Lafayette? Mississippi coast? Let 'em come.
Also, any do-not-miss suggestions for Thanksgiving dinner? We're bleary-eyed from looking at the possibilities. Thanks!

Hey Gardyloo! You already have the best excursion idea. Those are my two favorite plantations.
St. Francisville is another great choice. It's about 2-2.5 hours north of New Orleans. Cute antebellum town with even more plantations to view.
The Mississippi coast is fine if you want to gamble, but I don't see a lot there otherwise.

Hi Gardyloo,
You responded to my request for Cascadia information so I will return the favor. Here is a site with which I pretty much concur.
http://www.maisonperrier.com/index.html
I lived about 3 blocks from this bed and breakfast for over five years. I honestly did not know that it existed, or maybe it has opened since we left the Touro-Bouligny neighborhood. In addition I find the Celebration in the Oaks to be a beautiful New Orleans experience at that time of year and we have a touring museum exhibit now showing ancient Egyptian art at NOMA. We also have a new museum called the Ogden museum of southern art which is associated with the Smithsonian institute.
We have lovely old churches here. I like St. Alphonse in the Irish channel and St. Patrick's in the CBD. Just a few more ideas. Have fun and enjoy our interesting area. Tim

Call ahead to be sure none of those plantations are closed for the holiday. Don't panic if they are; I'm fairly sure several other types of tours are available on Thanksgiving Day in and around the city.
