That is a really odd combination.
I would not do either...though not bad, just not great.
August for absolutely sure!
or if that is too pricy, go for Cochon.
Check out the menus they are both online.
Perhaps you could do both with your budget.

Saw your ? on the other N.O post.
Hmmm.....they are just so different....GW Fins is a modern restaurant that specialize in fish, and Arnaud's is old and traditional.
Hmmmm if I had to decide between the too, then I would have to do Arnaud for the history tradition and feel of the place.
But if it is a WOW experience you want for food, then August right now is ON FIRE, as is Cochon.
Every city should have such problems when it comes to decisions on where to dine!

You're not kidding, mark99! Everyone should have this problem! Okay, now I want to check out Arnaud's and your 2 recommendations -- not enough time!!! I think I kept reading about GW Fins in a travel book I just got. I can't remember the title, but I got it at Barnes and Noble for all the great Self-Guided walking tours in it.

For tons of info on New Orleans dining you should check out www.nomenu.com . It is by the gentleman that does The Food Show every afternoon on a local AM station. You can even call him while he's on the air for a recomendation. Hope that helps!

Thank you everyone. I checked out the www.nomenu.com website, and I probably will call in with a request! I think it will have to be August then, and perhaps we will save Arnaud's for the Sunday Jazz Brunch.

Jazz brunch? You must try Commander's Palace for a jazz brunch. Either ask for a table near the window in the Garden room upstairs or a table near the window downstairs that is next to the courtyard (I'm drawing a blank on its name). I assume, too, that these rooms still exist...the last time we were there it was a few weeks before Katrina.

Beckytx, Stella is another great restaurant, and Scott is one of the great chefs of New Orleans.
I would leave it tothe menu....pull it up on line and compare it to August and make your decision based on what you think would like.
Both places are great.....and service in particular is above and beyond.
If the "scene" was important, then I would have to go with August which is far more elegant, and has a much nicer bar area.
Jazz brunch at Commanders is great, as is Arnauds!
