New Orleans B&B
Hi, all! I am heading to eBay Live 2004 in New Orleans next month, and I'd like to stay in a B&B. The conference is at the convention center, so I'd either like something a) near there on a safer walking route, b) somewhere along the Riverfront Streetcar route or possibly c) somewhere along the St. Charles streetcar route in the Garden District, if that is not too impractical. I will be on foot and folks say that walking very far after the convention days is not fun. Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Sara

Most B&Bs are not near the convention center. The ones in the Faubourg Marigny are close to the riverfront line and there are a couple on the St. Charles line.
Try www.neworleansinns.com for some ideas. All seem nice.

BEWARE!
Just got back from a 4-day stay in NO at a B&B in the Garden District (just off St. Charles on Prytania and Josephine). The Acadia Orleans Inn (or something) is in a GREAT location and looks nice from the street (typical NO look and feel). HOWEVER, I would NOT recommend it at all. Our room was accessed from the outside and involved climbing up AND down stairs to get to it. That would have been fine if the room had not been so disturbing. Disgustingly dirty carpet, dirty shower (i.e. 'remnants' from other guests on the tiles), threadbare towels, dirty shag-carpet-style bathmat, unsealed plastic cups, and questionable A/C were just the most obvious problems. The continental breakfast involved packaged doughnuts and muffins and powdered creamer (!). We tried it once, and decided to skip it the next few days.
The management was also remarkably out-of-sight. We had to call them (on our cell phone) to check in and never (EVER!) saw them again during our stay. Most B&Bs pride themselves on their personal service and assistance...not so here. You're pretty much on your own. Even the office door has a sign asking you to call them from your room rather than speak to them in person. Horrible.
Good luck and I hope that the eBay conference doesn't lead to the kind of lack of vacancy we experienced.
