Deb, as you know, ya can't get theya from heya.
302 brings you across the top of the WMNF. It may be faster than going all the way south to 112 (Kancamangus Hwy). I say may be because if you do 112, you will avoid N. Conway traffic, and still cross the border at Fryeburg.
Did you check stayng north and crossing on US 2. Try a mapquest and see what they say.

Route 302 to 202 in N. Windham, ME, to 495 from Gray, ME, to I-95, to Route 1 is the fastest and most direct. Should take about 3-1/2 hours with no stops. If you want to skip the outlets and traffic in N. Conway, look carefully for the sign "West Side Road" just after Cooks Corner and take that south to Route 16, go east to Route 113, which rejoins Route 302 in Conway, and continue on. If you want to take 112 (Kangamangus Highway), this is a beautiful drive (although Route 302 is nearly as scenic). This will take about 1/2 hour longer, except in Fall if there is traffic. During the fall, it's often congested with RV's.
