The Mount Washington Hotel is very old-timey and swank. The new/redone White Mountain Resort is supposed to be very nice. Don't know if either would still have room on New Year's Eve. The Eastern Slope Resort has some off-site locations that look interesting. The New England Inn has cottages with fireplaces. Their menu looks good although I've only eaten in the Pub. Happpy New Year!

We recently stayed at the Mountain View Grand Hotel in Whitefield NH. It's a beautiful place. Just don't get a room near the stairs. The Sat night comedy club was great. They have an extensive spa listing and another couple raved about the tower room jacuzzi which offers a 360 degree view. The staff seems to be well trained. There were 4-5 weddings held there on Labor Day weekend so it appears to be fairly popular as a destination wedding type of place. It didn't look like so many weddings were taking place so they must do a good job of it.

A second vote for the Balsams, but just know it is in northern NH, not far from Colebrook and the Canadian border. However, that being said , it has a beautiful location and skiing is nearby. Fairly remote and just an awesome old world European style hotel. You will love it.
