No advertisements here! Often for reading this forum, I use lynx, a text-only browser that doesn't even TRY to download graphics, and displays a full 80 columns of text only forum content. However it won't allow replies, so I launch IE or Mozilla for that.
But even IE is not displaying anything different, except that the message text used to take up maybe 60% of the screen width, but now uses maybe 30% - and it IS easier to read.
I'll put in a vote for nothing, as that is exactly what our vote counts. Some readers threaten (promise? ) to leave after each change ... but don't. We're all ADDICTS, which Fodors realizes and is going to capitalize on.

Really, you've seen readers threaten to leave after each change? That seems a bit much. Certainly you're not implying that anyone on this thread has said that. If so, you're reading way too much into the complaints.
And Howard - You still have it half wrong. Of course advertising is necessary here to make the forum exist at all. But as was already pointed out, if the advertising is so pervasive as to drive away a significant number of customers, it has defeated its purpose. There must be balance - advertising that is just visible enough to get noticed, without being so obnoxious as to lose customers.

Oh, and no ads for me using Firefox on my home computer. Just at work. Must be an adblocker or something that's different.
And for those who like the narrower column, wait until long links are posted. I don't know if a link to a fodors thread is long enough to be a problem, but if not there are plenty around that are.
Actually, on that front. For someone who can currently see the ads, do they move to the right in this thread:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=34609081
This thread is wider for me than others due to the long link in the first post. But I can't see the ads on this computer, so not sure how they'd behave.
