Thanks so much everyone for the great advice....here's what we decided based on all of your info...
Day 1..Fly into Boston, pick up car and drive to the Woodstock Inn for a 2 night stay (that way we can have dinner the 2nd night at Prince and the Pauper and stop for a visit at Simon Pearce)
Day 3...head to Stockbridge/Lenox for a 1 night stay at Cranwell, any tips on the route we should take for scenic value?? We are going to try Wheatleigh for dinner and soak in all of the Norman Rockwell festivities.
Day 4...drive to Newport R.I. for a one night stay at the Hotel Viking, we plan on doing the Christmas evening at the Breakers then dinner at White Horse Tavern.
Day 5...shop around Newport, maybe do another mansion tour or two and head to Manhattan..any advice about driving into the city on a Sunday (any particular time of day easier?) would be much appreciated, we would need to drop off our rental car in mid-town then transfer to the Westin at Times Square.
We will definately post a trip report on our return, this board has been so helpful in planning our trip..a huge THANKS!!
