New Bern or Washington NC?

We are going to a fossil festival in Aurora NC,the last week end in May. It looks like our two best picks are New Bern or Washington. We plan to spend two nights. OK Tarheels. I need your advice.

New Bern is a much nicer town and might be a little closer. There isn't much of anything at Aurora other than the gigantic phosphate plant and the museum. Rather desolate part of North Carolina. If you stay in Washington, you might want to take the Bayview-Aurora ferry so a schedule might be handy. You can get one off the internet.

palmettoprincess, I was just going to mention Harmony House B&B in New Bern, if you stay in that great little town. I loved that we could walk to everything from that B&B. It's a pretty and comfy place, my only complaint that the bed linens weren't quite up to the rest of the decor, but everything else was very nice so I'd go back. Eat at Harvey House ... we had a GREAT dinner there!

visit Tyron Palace if you can while in New Bern - and spend an hour walking through the downtown and waterfront area -

Take a side trip to Beaufort, NC a wonderful little town.

PS, Washington is not all that bad, just not much of a tourist infrastructure.

elsiemoo: I'd stay at your B&B if it was just my husband and I. I don't think my teen and tween would make good B&B guests.

I hope we can check out some of the spots mentioned in this thread.

I agree, palmettoprincess ... most kids I know would not be too impressed with a B&B ...
