Need quick advice on Salem, Oregon restaurants
We leave tomorrow morning for the weekend in Salem (soccer tournament). Are there any recommendations for good restaurants? This is not a place where the whole team can go, but just our family of 4. Even our kids appreciate good food!

Hi jgg, our favorite in town is La Margarita. If you like Mexican food, they do a great job--it's a Mexican restaurant so not "fancy" per se but high quality and upscale as compared to most Mexican eateries. Pedro Rosales is the owner and has run the restaurant since the early 80s.
They have mesquite-grilled meats and great margaritas (of course). I recommend the "Enchilada Combination," which is their specialty. It's an Enchilada suiza (mesquite grilled chicken inside) and a cheese enchilada served with a green cream sauce. To die for! They make great fresh salsas too.
They are located on Ferry Street near the High Street crossing downtown, adjacent to the Elsinore Theater. I'm sure you could get directions from someone or look them up in the book. Our family has eaten there about once a week for years and years. Both of my boys grew up on their food.
If that doesn't do it for you, and you have a specific craving for a certain type of food let me know I will try to provide other suggestions. Have fun!

noryglory--I grew up there and remember that place
Another Mexican place that has been around for years that we like is Los Baez. It is on south Commercial Street. Great for families, casual, good food. Everytime we go back to visit friends or for one of the kids activities, this is a must stop for us.

Hi Noryglory- The first night we ate at Pietro's pizza with the whole team (ugh- okay actually we had the mediterranean pizza and it wasn't bad). The second night, based on your recommendation, we ate at La Margarita. Between my husband and I we had chicken, steak and shrimp enchiladas, daughter had fajitas and son chicken tacos. Everything was delicious. Thanks so much for the help!!
