I seriously doubt a real estate agent could narrow down the locations as well as getting ideas from this forum. Mel needs to know which towns to look in before contacting an agent.
But why so many summer house postings all in a row? And why not include "wisonsin" in your header to save people from the south and west coast from even opening the post?

Believe me, "m", the requirements for parts of Wisconsin that include appealing second summer homes that are in beautiful little nontouristy towns within 20 minutes of Chicago has already narrowed it down sufficiently for any real estate agent in the area to deal with.

Mel, how can I say this without sounding cranky.......please keep your Illinois $$ in Illinois.
As I life long resident of Wisconsin, I've seen way too many northern Wisconsin treasures over run with F.I.B.S. particularly Door County. Residents of those communities can no longer afford to purchase property because real estate has been driven to astronomically high prices. Because of all the out-of-staters, there are almost no areas that are not built up with trophy homes and noisy water toys.
There is one area still nearly perfect but I will not divulge the location.

I live and work in the lakeshore area between Sheboygan and Algoma. This area is always passed over for the hype of door county. Within 2-3 miles of the lake it's almost like year round air conditioning, but get a little further inland by a small lake, or bordering a state or county park; if thats what you want. I'd suggest touring this area. It isn't a cluster of beauty but it definately does have pockets of under appreciated property. If you are truely looking for something non-commercialized and beautiful will find something to your liking here. It's not everyone's vision of beauty, only the residents. Don't tell anyone, they won't believe you.

Try this one time for each season. Get county maps for Sheboygan, Manitowoc, and Kewaunee Counties for areas of interest. Take this route, explore the sideroads, take notes and pictures. North of Sheboygan, exit at Cleveland, take hiway LS North to Manitowoc, From Manitowoc take Hiway B North to Hiway 29 in Kewaunee County. Take Hiway 29 East detour to Kewaunee. From Kewaunee take Hiway C to Casco. From Casco take Hiway 54? to Algoma or Continue of Hiway C to Stuergon Bay. Watch the terrain for rolling hilling areas and watch the maps for small nearby lakes.

You want something BEAUTIFUL and 100% NON-TOURISTY. That is so unique. I don't think I've ever come across someone who wanted BOTH of those things. What an original guy you are. Let me guess, once you move there you want it zoned so NO ONE else can move there.

Sally, that's here too. It's the Town of Two Creeks, in the township with the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant. Build as big of a house as you want. No property taxes, and it does have I believe a 40 acre minimum in the zoning, if you can find anyone who will sell you property. The scenery is so so, along the lake. Definately no tourism. Tourism traffic on HWY 42, but no tourism except the Nuclear Plant Visitors Center. That must be what, Sally was referring to.

Mel 2, Mel 1 did not say s/he was looking for something 20 minutes from Chicago, but rather 20 minutes from a town in Wisconsin to facilitate shopping. You can't even REACH Wisconsin 20 minutes after leaving Chicago, unless you count Grays Lake or somewhere like that as part of "Chicago."
And Mel 1, please disregard "no fibs" (as I'm sure you already have). I am a proud Wisconsinite, now living in Chicago, and would move home at the drop of a hat -- make that the drop of a comparable job for both hubby and me. Not all of us cheeseheads are as rude or inhospitable as Mel2.
(Oh yeah, my recommendation in answer to your question would be Plain, Wisconsin)
