Need hotel option in NASA/Clear Lake Area

Anyone know of a hotel that's around $100 a night but "nice" in the NASA/Clear Lake/League City area?

We'll be going down for a wedding and need something close to the church, which is in Dickinson.

Some of the ones I've checked include La Quinta, Best Western, and Super 8 but TA reviews are unfavorable. The Hampton and Hilton, both older properties, are above $100.

Just wondering if there's some new/fairly new lodging option (like a Hyatt Place or Marriott Courtyard) that has yet to pop up on the usual travel sites.

TIA,
cdg

Have you tried the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Houston-Seabrook on NASA Road 1? It's one of the newer and nicer hotels in the area. Hopefully it's under $100 for your dates.

The La Quinta gets decent reviews on Tripadvisor too.

Did you try the Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inn in Texas City? They're right off I-45, just past Dickinson.

There's a Courtyard by Marriott on the corner of Highway 3 and Bay Area Boulevard.

rk- The HI looked great but the rate is $119. The Fairfield also would have been nice but they're booked up for the weekend.

Statia - I couldn't find the Courtyard you referenced. Did you mean the Residence Inn? Or is there a new Courtyard there?

I did find a Holiday Inn that opened a year ago in LaPorte, which I believe is fairly close to Dickinson.

Is anyone familiar with the area?

La Porte is quite a bit north of the Dickinson area. I'd rather try one of the nicer Hobby aiport hotels instead if you're willing to go a little further. Or even Galveston.

For example, Priceline's Hobby zone has the Hilton and Marriott as 3*. Both should be decent. About 18 miles to Dickinson.

What exact dates do you need the room for?

Thanks RK. I located a TownePlace Suites that is fairly close for $79. We'll be there this weekend.

Part of my hotel decision is based on the logistics of the weekend's events. For example, the hair salon the bridal party is going to Saturday morning is midway between TownePlace and the church in Dickinson. So I think that's a good locale.

The reception is in Galveston and I looked at hotels there but my how times have changed. I used to live in Houston from roughly '96-'02 and remember Galveston being a tad less expensive.

The bride, who is from Dickinson but now lives up this way, said Galveston has a greater focus on economic development and as a result there is lots of new construction of "upscale" residential and I noticed Marriott is locating a new property there that is opening up next month. Sounds like G-town is becoming more of a destination.

On a sidenote: I recall the South Shore Harbour Resort near Kemah being pretty nice, and it's very close to the salon, so I was thinking we may do Friday night there and Saturday night at TPS.

However, considerng the time restraints and the fact that we're only there for two days, I'm pretty sure we'll just make TPS our base and make the drive back north following the reception.

Thank you so much for your help!

It might be a Residence Inn I was thinking of.

LaPorte is about 15 minutes from Dickinson straight up Highway 146.

Sounds like you have it all worked out. I spend a lot of time in that area when I'm in the US each year, but unfortunately don't really make note of where the hotels are located.

Hi there,
Wanted to follow up on our visit for the wedding. We lodged at Marriott's TownePlace Suites on Bay Area Boulevard.

The location was perfect for us as the property is near Highway 3, which was the best route to get to the rehearsal and wedding at Shrine of the True Cross in Dickinson, to the rehearsal dinner at Garcia's Grill, which was fabulous, and it also was just minutes away from Angela's Hair Designs in League City where the bride, the matron of honor, and I got our hair-do's the morning before the wedding.

Our check-in was quick. The property is, of course, more of an extended stay so there's no traditonal front desk, rather there is an office. Similar to a leasing office in an apartment complex.

All the ladies, including housekeeping were very nice. Our room was super clean. A studio with a seriously comfy bed and pillows, a pull out sofa bed, which we didn't need, and a full kitchen equipped with cookware, utensils, glasses, etc.

The rate was only $79 a night and came with continental breakfast. Nothing too special but there was a waffle station. Other than that, there were Otis Spunk muffins, bottles of oj and apple juice, fruit, and the like.

I was extremely pleased that we stayed here. It's right next door to a bank, across the street from restaurants and a sports bar, and around the corner from a gas station and strip mall with a grocery store and other little shops.

It's also just down the road from the mall. That's always helpful. I had packed DH's suit and shirt but forgot cufflinks so while I got my hair done, he went to Dillard's and found a pair that regularly go for $50. He paid $13 and some change! Now that was a sale.

Anyway, I'd highly recommend this place to anyone in the Clear Lake/Nasa/Kemah/Seabrook/League City/Dickinson area. These are all little towns that feed into one another without clear cut borders so if you are anywhere near those, I highly recommend the TP Suites.

Lastly, the wedding reception was at the Ashton Villa in Galveston. Beautiful place. If you're ever there, stop by and take the tour and visit the gift shop, which operates out of the original carriage house. This is one of the few mansions to survive the great hurricane in 1900, among other storms. It's beautiful inside and out.

Thanks again everyone who gave me feedback on where to stay!

That Mariott Suites is exactly the place I was thinking of, ChicagoDallasGirl. Glad it worked out well for you and that the trip went smooth.

I live overseas and you now have me hankering for some food from Garcia's. My sister lives not too far from there and we often get our Tex-Mex fix there when I'm in town.

Ashton Villa is lovely, isn't it? I grew up in the catering business (actually just down the road from that mall you went to) and we catered a lot of weddings there.

Glad you enjoyed my home town! Thanks for the update.

Hi Statia! Ok. Thaaaat's the place! Cool. It all worked out beautifully.

I used to live in Houston, for several years, and worked at a company that officed at Clear Lake Shores.

Oh my goodness. Garcia' was awesome. Loved the deck on the pond with the ducks and all. Very laid back.

Where do you live now?

I've been in the Dutch West Indies for 14 years, but get back to Clear Lake annually since all my family still lives there. I'll be there in November and I'm looking forward to my Tex Mex fix at Garcia's.
