Need hotel help on Washington D.C.
We are using Marriott travel certificates, so we're limited to the Marriotts/Courtyards, etc. Looking for a safe place, convenient to the Metro, and within reasonable walking distance to restaurants and some major attractions (not sure which ones yet, but just to any major ones would be nice). I'm looking at Renaissance Washington DC Hotel (999 Ninth St NW), Marriott at Metro Center, Courtyard Washington DC Convention Center. How are these convenience wise or do you know of some other Marriotts that are better?
Thank you,
Pamela

they all sound pretty close to one another
10th & I streets is where the first one is...
12th & G is where metro center stop is (don't know exactly where the hotel is, but it must be close)
and the Convention Center is at 9th & G..
why do they all sound like they are neighbors?
anyone?

I'm a very frequent business traveler and I try to stick to Marriott. I've stayed in all of your choices. Here's my thoughts - the best overall choice for convenience and nightime choices for restaurants is the JW Marriott. It's very close to the White House and the Smithsonian and there are plenty of restaurants nearby at night.
The Renaissance is very nice but all hotels in the convention area have limited options at night unless you want to cab it. I don't like the Courtyard at the Convention Center - it's small and always crowded with conventioneers who like to make noise at night!
If I can't get the JW, then I choose the Marriott on 22nd Street or the Residence Inn in Dupont Circle. These 2 choices are close to the metro and have lots of good choices of restaurants that are walkable. The Dupont Circle area is a lively neighborhood at night and I am always comfortable walking around as a single traveller. I hope this helps - you can also use your Marriott points at the Ritz - that's a property that I haven't stayed at in Washington.

The Dupont Circle facility (on P street NW) is the most versatile location -- handy to Metro for getting everywhere during the day and surrounded by restaurants of varied prices and cuisines, plus good strolling territory for after downtown closes at 6 pm.

I stayed at this property 2 weeks ago. The strong point for this hotel is that the metro stop is right on the corner and there are 3 lines that converge at this stop. You can get most places without having to change metro lines. The room that we had was standard Marriott and the pool is nice if you have children. The tourist sites are walkable from here and the choice of restaurants is fair but not as good as the Dupont Circle area. Service at the hotel was good. No complaints.
