Need help with Oahu

My wife and I are off to Oahu for a long week in August. Besides Pearl Harbor and renting a car to drive around the Island for two days, what else are the things to do while in Oahu?
Any must sees?
Any thing to avoid?
Are there one day trips to other islands?
Please help!

Hi grogger, visit Hanauma Bay:

Kualoa Ranch:

Polynesian Cult Center

If you want to take a day trip to another island. Use Hawaiian Airlines

Check out the many, many beaches on Oahu. Just Google.

Wish we were there!!!! again.
Of course Polynesian Culture Center,
Northshore. Eat at the Crouching Lion, great view. Be sure to hit a Luau. Hanauma Bay is great if it isn't closed for something!. There is a drive up to where the winds are very strong, sorry I can't remember it. There are flea markets around the football field on the weekends. Be sure to get some Hui Hui chicken and soda and go to the beach and eat this deliciously seasoned chicken. Just driving to a beach and enjoying the beauty is wonderful. Downtown is just another big city. Market is ok. Unless you just have to, don't spend much time on Waikiki Beach.

Just depends your interests.

If you enjoy history and architecture: Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace and Doris Dukes ShangiLa estate are all fun.

Outdoorsy: snorkel Hanuama Bay, hike DiamondHead, take a surfing lesson.

Yes you can take 1-day trips with an organized tour to go to another island (with only one week, myself, I'd stay on Oahu though, because there's plenty to see & do there).

Things to avoid: can't think of anything.

You can take a day trip to any of the other islands. Take an early flight out of Honolulu (6am-7am) and a late return (8pm).

I've taken day trips to Maui (Road to Hana & Big Island (Hilo side for Hilo, Akaka Falls & Hawaii Volcanoes National Park). We booked our own flights & rented a car each time. But there are also tours that are available that include hotel pick up. www.robertshawaii.com
