need help with hotel in NO

Has anyone stayed at Grand Palace hotel on Canal st in NO? I found a very good price but after reading a lot of articles on this forum the location is what I am not sure about. Thank you! N>

ONCE AGAIN, a good price = bad hotel in New Orleans. The "Grand Palace" (it's neither!) was shut down by the health department last year and allowed to reopen after they gassed the rats. Do NOT stay there. Ever.

Once again Dan is right. Do NOT expect to get a decent, safe hotel in NO at a bargain rate.

Forget the French Quarter. Your best bet is to find a B&B in Faubourg Marigny or the Garden District. Try bbnola.com.

I beg to differ - if you don't mind the heat and go during the summer, you can find great rates at even the highest end hotels in the French Quarter.

snowrooster - you must've missed this person's first post. He/she is going to NO next week and has already asked about the Historic French Market Inn, which also has a terrible reputation.

I didn't realize this was follow-up to another thread - sorry. I'm planning a July trip to NO and love it that you can stay someplace top notch if you can stand the heat!

snowrooster - I have friends who went in August and had a great time. They had a great hotel at a good rate and just scheduled their activities around the heat - sightseeing and outdoor activities in the mornings, naps, relaxing in the pool, and indoor activities in the afternoon, and partying at night.
