Need help in Dallas - Intercontinental?
We will rendezvous with family in Dallas in July. They are staying at Intercontinental for a convention. Our family (including 15 yr.daughter and 9 yr. son) would like to stay near this hotel. We are not familiar with Dallas. I saw good rates for Wyndham at Galleria. Would this be a good choice and close to Intercontinental? We are also open to other hotel ideas. Museum, shopping, restaurant recommendations would also be helpful in this area. Thank you!

DownSouth...I am a frequent visitor to Dallas and surrounding areas, business and fun.The Intercontinental is actually located in Addison(zip 75001).It is actually one of my all time favorites-great service, food is good, great indoor pool. However,it is not inexpensive. While I have no personal knowledge of the Wyndham/Galleria(other than i think it used to be a Hilton) I do not like the Galleria area because the traffic is horrendous every time I am in the area. It's a fabulous mall, but maybe a tad overgrown for my liking. Here are some hotels within about a 5-mile radius of the Intercontinental, all well within a short drive of Belt Line Road, restaurant after restaurant after restaurant.Yes, that traffic is pretty hefty too!
Courtyard Addison,Springhill Suites Addison,Comfort Suites Addison,LaQuinta Inn and Suites,Hampton Inn,Marriott Quorum, Wingate Inn,Hilton Garden Inn Addison,Summerfield Suites Addison (I dont like the exterior corridors!),Holiday Inn , and even a Motel 6 !! Best of luck and I hope this helps....Well, gotta add, its hot as he** in Dallas in July!....Stephen

After being such a Galleria-hater...I'm now converted into a Galleria-lover. It's a great mall to hang out in with the Grand Lux Cafe and Lunar Golf (glow-in-the-dark). And shopping for everyone...from Old Navy to Versace.
The Westin at the Galleria (connected to the mall) has a pool which will be handy when it's 95 degrees.
Museums are in the Arts District - DMA and Nasher have free admission on Thurs nights. Science and Natural History in Fair Park. Dallas World Aquarium (awesome!) in the West End.

Thanks, everyone. I'll check out the Westin as well since I forgot to add that my husband will play golf several times. The Galleria sounds great with lots to do. I did notice that there is an Embassy Suites near the Galleria. Any comment?
Being from Baton Rouge, we're used to summer heat and humidity, but thanks for the reminder, Stephen.

DownSouth...That Embassy Suites is a great location. The Galleria is at 13355 Noel Rd and the ES is at 14021 Noel Road, almost to Spring Valley Rd.It is a bit north of the main "hubub" of the Galleria so if you could get a good rate,I'd go for it.Being from LA,the Texas heat can be overwhelming.Somehow I dont mind it in the pool or on the golf course!!

DownSouth...Couple of more things came to mind. There is a Candlewood Suites next door to the Embassy Suites on Noel Rd....A bit basic but the price may be just right...No restaurant or room service but as I remember a mini-convenience mart adjacent to the "lobby".Then right across from the entrance to Macy's Garage on Noel Road is the Hilton Suites. It is relatively new all suite property indoor pool.Very nice. Here's my tip to avoid the traffic congestion at the Galleria. From the Intercontinental Hotel, take the service road of the Tollway. The hotel is indeed on the service road, southbound. The next intersection is the infamous BeltLine Road.Keep going south I think the next big intersection is Spring Valley Rd.Take a left on Spring Valley,go to Noel Road which I think is next, to the right. That is the "back way" to the mall. You will be on the east side. There are 3 office towers on the east side adjoining the Galleria.Tower 2 is the most northern,Tower 1 is in the middle and Tower 3 the furthest south. Each of these towers has ample, covered, safe, free parking.Personally I use Tower 1 cuz thats where my TravelAgent was for a while. There's a bridge from the parking garage to the mall that will take you to Level 3.IMHO, much easier to get into and out of than the garages on the west side, north and south of the mall itself.I hope this helps and have agreat trip! Pepper...OF COURSE you are confused!! I'm and out-of-towner!! But seriously, I would go the mall when I would go to visit my TA, who was in Tower One there on Noel RD...The Merrill Lynch office was there too so I did my banking there as well.So I really only know the Noel Road "method" as it were of parking.I dont think I ever have been to the Galleria just to go shopping.I hope that makes sense!

The Intercontinental is on the Dallas North Tollway just north of Beltline. There are too many dining options to name in that general vicinity. Several along the Tollway, several going west on Beltline, and also in the shopping area to on the Southeast corner of Beltline and the Tollway.
I like the Galleria for shopping. I think it is a good mix of up-market and mid-market.
As mentioned there is the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Museum of Art. Both pretty good. The World Aquarium in the West End is pretty good, although I don't think it is as good as the Tennesee Aquarium in Chattanooga, and the kids would probably like it. Also the Kimbell Museum in Ft. Worth is supposed to be excellent, but you are looking at a 50 mile drive. However, the downtown Ft. Worth area and stockyards area are also nice, more Texas-sy than Dallas, so it makes a good daytrip if you have the time.
I am sure the kiddo's would probably enjoy Six Flags in Arlington, the waterpark there would probably be a good choice in July.
