Need advice from teachers or parents

I am beginning to plan a vacation next winter and I would like to avoid school vacation weeks. My "kid" is no longer in school and I'm out of touch!I'm thinking February or early March. Can any of you folks out there advise me of weeks that would not be school vacations?
Thanks in advance!!

Not all schools (primary or secondary) have the same vacations. Even here in Austin, some neighboring cities have spring break a week later than we do. Same for colleges. I remember being in college in NY and when I went home for spring break, most of my friends were not on break the same time.

However, I think that February is pretty safe and maybe the first week of March. I know my kid is usually out of school the second week of March. I think the 2nd week of march thru the first week of April can be considered "Spring Break."

I would go in January or very early February. Mid Feb through March and April has President's Week, Spring Breaks, and Easter Week vacations.

OK, avoid Martin Luther King Jr weekend which is the weekend of January 16-19, 2004 and February 14-20, 2004 which is President's Week. Avoid all of March because of Winter Break.

Early December or January is generally quiet.

I recommend anytime in January through February 10th or so, but after that, I wouldn't venture out until after April 15th. You said winter, so another good bet for avoiding kids would be the first two weeks of December.

I agree with happytrails and GoTravel -- spring vacations start with Presidents Day and run through late April, so early February sounds best.

(For instance, my kids have off the weeks of Presidents Day and Patriots Day, the third Mondays in February and April respectively, as do most of the public schools in my state, whereas most of the private schools take off the last 2 weeks in March.)

Just check the calendar and avoid all holidays including the small ones like President's day and also religious holidays like christmas, new year, easter.

It has all been pretty much been summed up, except for this: The cheapest flights and hotels/best deals seem to be available the first two weeks of January. You may want to consider this, and also of course realize that there will be few 'kids' out and about. JMHO

I would definitely say go the last week of January. You won't run in to any college kids, they would have just gone back. And the younger kids schools aren't off for spring breaks usually til March/April. So sometime between MLK weekend and Presidents should be perfect!
