Natives Please Help Suggest Areas looking to peace and quiet!
Looking for a longer term retreat. Wanting a quiet place to rent for 6 - 12 months. Can someone point me to some quiet areas preferably near woods? Just want to escape for a while. Haven't been in the northwest very long and going through some life changes. I just want someplace with lots of trees and lots of quiet. I don't care if I'm an hour or so from a town; just looking to rent a place for a while. I would really appreciate any suggestions on a town or area of the state. Not looking for work just want some beauty and peace. Thanks!!

Sisters was the first place that came to mind, but in the summer the main drag area is a zoo.
That said, I think Sandy would be a good place. It is on the way up to Mt. Hood, but close enough in that you are not usually hampered by snow. Lots of rural rentals around there as well, but close enough to the grocery store and such.

There's a lot for rent around Sisters, and you should get a pretty good deal. You don't have to be right in town.
If that's still too busy, try Camp Sherman. Being down by the Metolius would be fantastic.
Don't know what your budget is, but you might find a great 6 month deal at Black Butte Ranch if you're willing to wait until September.

Lots of trees and quiet, not so close to town:
- North Fork of the Sanitam River east of Salem
- Manzanita area on the coast, Bandon, Pacific City, lots of places on the coast
- McKenzie River east of Eugene
- Wallowa Mtns (smaller trees, but very pretty and very quiet)

I am always warning people against staying in far off places, such as woods, desert, etc. You are far from help, police, fire, ambulance, etc. cant get to you. The bad guy is always on the look out for people who stay far off by themselves. BTW, what if there is a forest fire? What if you get appendicitis? food poisoning? fall and break your hip?
