Looking for a quiet sledding spot in Oregon

We would like to go sledding while we are back in Oregon visiting family. It could be a day trip from Corvallis or Portland or what we would ideally want is place to stay for a few nights with sledding near by. One year we went to Mazama Lodge with my daughter's class for a day of sledding and loved it. Unfortunately, we are not members. Any suggestions for quaint sledding spots with lodging near by?

Thank You!

There are several options for lodging right near the Mazamas Lodge. Stay at one of those and sled on the big hill there in town at Govt. Camp.

I have been doing my research and think that we may visit McKenzie Bridge and Sisters. We are considering visiting Black Butte, too. This is just the direction that my research has lead on a sleepless night. If anyone knows a good place to go sledding near these places that would be super! Other ideas or directions would be appreciated as well.

oh, MMS, your post was not there when I looked before. What is the hill in town like? And do you have a suggestion on lodging?

Thank You!!

We have gone sledding on that hill many times over the years. It is basically on a small street that is shut down and buried in snow. Pretty steep, but lots of fun. It is up where all the cabins are...you can't miss it. We normally go out for the day, but we have stayed once at the Mt. Hood Inn. Nothing fancy, but clean and well kept. There are some other new places in town. The website www.mthood.info has everything you need for lodging, etc in the area.

Sorry, I just noticed the quiet part of your request. This area is full of sledders, but usually only busy on the weekends. Even then it isn't bad. But I didn't want to give the impression that you would be alone there.

Thank you for all the great information. We are novice sledders and did not want to be run over but it does not need to be too quiet.
Thanks again!

If your sledding plans fall between Nov 15 and April 30th, and include a designated sno-park, you'll want to check out the following link:

http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/vehic..._permits.shtml

It has information about parking passes and a map of Oregon Sno-Parks.

If you are staying is Sisters or Black Butte
Willamette Pass ski area has a sledding area - never sledded there so dont know how crowded we are talking - they also have a tubing hill

Hoo Doo Ski area is also close to Sisters -
and so is Mt Bachelor - I would guess Mt Bachelor would be the busiest since its the biggest ski area.

A night in Bend would be fun

or how about a night at Suttle Lake Lodge - its very close to Hoo Doo
and is very nice - we stayed there last year in the cabins

another place we stay at frequently is Shelter Cove resort - its not far from Willamette Pass

There is a nice hill across from the entrance to Hoodoo off Hwy 20. It is a nice hill for a variety of sledders - a less steep part for the little guys (or sane) and then farther to the right it gets wild. I also like it because it has a burm at the bottom so you can't go too far. I wouldn't say it is quiet but especially on weekends but people seem pretty good at taking turns if necessary. It is very close to the parking lot - but it is a sno-park so buy a pass as mentioned above. Hoodoo also has a tube hill but I have never tried it, looks like fun but I think it can be pretty busy on the weekends. Hoodoo is about 30-40 minutes from Black Butte.

Bachelor has a sno-park on the Bend raod, just before the turn to Sunriver below the mountain that has an area for sledding. We were almost alone the few times we used it - more a snowmobiling area. Maybe someone else can help with the sno-park name. I think it starts with an M.

Don't forget the hot chocolate! Enjoy!
