Hood River Ski Accomodations

I'm going skiing at Mt. Hood Meadows for the week following President's Day weekend. I did this once before, staying at the Best Western Hood River Inn. Other than the river view, this place was nondescript, so we were looking for a more interesting place to stay. I have a brochure from Mt. Hood Meadows, showing all the places that participate in their $25 lift ticket promotion (which, by the way is a great deal - if you save $50-$60 per day in lift tickets, it makes the effective cost of the hotel room really low).

I was particularly interested in Cooper Spur Resort, which has the added attraction of being significantly closer to the Meadows. Has anyone stayed there?

Do you have any other recommendations for accomodations in/near Hood River?

Thanks,
Al

I don't know how far it is from your ski resort, but we loved the Columbia Gorge Hotel. www.columbiagorgehotel.com They are offering a Winter Special for $119/night for a garden view room with two entrees at their elegant restaurant. The room also comes with a Farm Country Breakfast that is "world-famous!"

It's a beautiful property, very comfortable with an elegant feel to it. ***kim***

Hi Alf,
You may want to check out the Historic Hood River Hotel. I have not stayed there but it looks nice and has the same $25 lift ticket package.

Have you considered staying at Timberline or possibily renting a cabin in Goverment Camp, which is just down the mountian from Meadows ??
Hope we get more snow soon...!

I stayed at Cooper Spur many years ago. It was very rustic and consisted of several small cabins and a larger building with a restaurant. There were also some outdoor hottubs as I recall. "Resort" would really be stretching it! I was there for an office retreat and I know several people stayed in each cabin. The cabins had kitchens and fireplaces. That's about all I remember. It is quite isolated - close to the ski slopes but far from Hood River.

I would also suggest Government Camp. There are quite a few places to stay (some brand new places have just been built) and there are a lot of restaurants all within walking distance. It is very close to Meadows.
