Napa Valley Itinerary
My husband and I are making a last minute trip to Napa Valley for our anniversary next weekend for 2 days. I haven't had time to do a lot of research, but this is what I have planned. Please let me know if you have any recommendations!
Sat- spend morning in San Fran (we've never been there and would like to see at least one thing- suggestions??); drive to Napa Valley early afternoon and visit 2 wineries- Sterling and Domaine Chandon
dinner reservation- Bistro Don Giovanni
Sun- take the Napa Winery Shuttle to some of their partner wineries (includes Mondavi, Merryvale, Niebaum-Coppola among others)
dinner reservation- Bistro Jeanty
Please let me know if you have any experience with the winery shuttle. Thanks!

We just returned from Napa and had a great time.Domain Chandon are nice choices. If you have time check out heitz
for a taste,Quintessa, great wine,Opus-great wine and expensive tasting but it is worth it just for the view,Mondavi gives a great tour as does meeryvale.I was not thrilled with the copola winery
For dinner we were very disappointed with bistro jeanty. The food was ok but there was no atmosphere. If you want to stay casual try the martini house and sit outside. The food and atmosphere are great.I also here BRIX and Tre Vigne are nice as well. For a more upscale experience Auberge du sloile is great,Domain Chandon has a wonderful resturant,

Hello lr1,
Since you only have 2 days for your trip my suggestion would be to drive to Napa Valley as soon as you arrive. With your limited time I would not recommend spending time in San Francisco. If you leave SF for Napa on Saturday afternoon it will probably take close to 2 hrs. to get there, thus not leaving you much time to tour wineries on Saturday.
Assuming that you are flying into San Francisco, I would also not suggest driving through town as the traffic can be a pain.
From the SF airport I'd take 101 south/92 east (San Mateo Bridge)/580 west/80 east/37 toward Napa/29 north.
This would be the most direct and quickest route to Napa from SF airport. If your are flying into Metropolitan Oakland International Airport then you would get on 880 north to 980 east then to 580 west and continue on the same route I mentioned previously.
Sorry that I don't have any experience with the winery shuttle.
Have a great time in Napa. October is a great month there as it is harvest season.

Thanks for the advice! Our trip was wonderful. We visited Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco on Saturday morning and headed to Napa Valley in the afternoon. We hit one winery- Domaine Chandon before checking into our hotel Napa River Inn (great hotel!). We ate dinner at Bistro Don Giovanni (good food, but very crowded). Sunday we visited many wineries including Mondavi, V. Sattui, Merryvale and several others with the Napa Winery Shuttle (well worth it). We ate dinner at Tra Vigne (excellent).
We really enjoyed Napa Valley and although it was a quick trip and we certainly didn't see all of it, we were there long enough to enjoy it.

We ate at Tre Vigna a few weeks ago and it was good (as usual) though we were disappointed that it no longer serves the roasted garlic dip. After dinner we stopped in Yountsvile and checked out Bouchon and Hurleys. Both look great and their menus were varied, large and reasonably priced. Looked for the French Laundry but couldn't find it.
