Our kids are headed to Camp Grandma for a couple weeks later this month, and we're headed to the NMB Marriott Grande Dunes to veg/eat/shop/pretend we don't have kids. (Yeah, we know there are MB detractors, but we like it and I've got skadoodles of Marriott points...and did I mention my kids won't be there? *smile*)

Can anyone offer any recommendations on a couple of nice (but not necessarily "fussy") restaurants? Seafood would be great - italian, american, we're not picky. We don't mind a little drive (we've gone up to Calabash from the Marriott before) - someplace that we *wouldn't* take our kids?

travel, if you go to Parson's Table, please come back and tell us how it is. I have always wanted to go there and the time I finally convinced the DH to go, it was on the day they were closed!!!

Just a little clarification: Marriott Grande Dunes is in MB, not NMB. And if you've stayed there before, you know how wonderful that section of the beach is.

Here are a few more suggestions a little closer to where you are staying (I love all the previous suggestions though).

Seafood: Bonefish (it's a chain, but it's great anyway); Flamingo Grill (I like their seared tuna); Collector's Cafe (continental, creative cuisine, a little pricy and a little fussy, but definitely a special occasion restaurant); Aspen Grill, in the same vein as Collectors; Thoroughbreds (consistently one of the best "nice" restaurants here); Umi (a newer, chic Pacific Rim-type place).

Italian: I have to rave about my favorite - Ciao. It's a small, nice neighborhood restaurant with a great waitstaff and an even better chef, lunch or dinner. Best in the MB area.

We frequently go to the Parsons Table. I think they went through a rough patch when the Owner (Dad) stepped down for a bit, but they seem to have gotten things back together. My Dad was there just last week & said everything was back up to its normal fine quality. In addition, they do seafood right (ie. not fried). Bon Appetit.

Beachdweller, we followed your recommendation and ate at Ciao last week. It was the most civilized experience of the entire week....no crowds, soft lights, table cloths, Pavoroti CD in the background....kind of like I'd escaped to another planet. The only restaurant of the week where we were willing to take our leftovers back to the hotel and reheat the next day.

CLT currently, but I grew up in Ohio & going to Holden Beach. I get there a lot more often than once a year, these days.

There are so many that would be perfect for you BUT I would have to second (or third) the Parson's Table for a nice dinner, well served.

I always enjoy The Sea Captain's House for lunch. Agree about Bonefish, Thoroughbreds, and Collector's Cafe. I must try Ciaos.
