Myrtle Beach deluxe?

Am trying to find an upscale resort for a couple who love to golf in the Myrtle Beach area and have come up with either Kingston Plantation or Barefoot Resorts. Feedback on either. Thanks for your help.

Judy, I am familiar with Kingston Plantation. It is very nice, upscale. A wonderful pool area, and an awesome gym. Nice place. Sorry I am unfamiliar with Barefoot Resorts. I can offer no comparison.

Kingston is on the beach and Barefoot Resort is not. No comparison, Kingston by a mile.

Judy, Kingston is nice, but by NO MEANS upscale or deluxe. The health & fitness center is the highlight of the property...if that tells you anything. I have searched for such a property at Myrtle Beach also....we just decided Hilton Head was much more to our liking. In my mind, Kingston is very overpriced, and our room was dirty! really dirty!

Judy- Hands down- Embassy Suites at Kingston Plantation or the condos at Embassy Suites at Kingston Plantation--
Beautiful rooms--If you stay at the Embassy suites portion,it includes full cooked to order breakfast in the price of the room...

GOlf at Arcadian Shores--right around the corner---

Also another option is the Wyndham Resort-right next to Embassy Suites Kingston Plantation-- it used to be a HILTON until it was sold about 4 years ago-totally renovated--Nice rooms -not great ,but nice- Gorgeous lobby--

Taking into consideration Mrytle Beach it is upscale for the area. No, it doesn't compare with Hilton Head. A totally different feel altogether.

Kingston Plantation is a large, lushly landscaped resort comprised of townhouses, high rise beachfront condo's and an Embassy Suites hotel. The condos range from 1 to 3 bedrooms, and also range in quality from okay to top of the line luxurious.

We go every year and stay at Kingston Plantation in one of the condos. They are gorgeous! Granite countertop kitchen, beadboard, marble baths, Especially the oceanfront Brighton, we asked, just for fun what the sale price of a 2 bedroom condo is there, $ 550K. I would call that upscale. The complex itself is lovely, very well landscaped. The highlight of the resort is the waterpark, for our kids. We've never had a dirty condo. I'd ask to be moved immediately if that were the case.

If you are interested in just a Hotel room, then the Wyndham, which is just next door, would certainly be more upscale. But bear in mind that a room at the Wyndham is about the same price (or slightly higher) than the NICEST 2 bedroom condo (Brighton) at Kingston. The rooms at the Wyndham are nicer than those at Embassy Suites, but still, IMO, the Embassy suites (which is part of Kingston Plantation), are a good deal with the breakfast, complimentary cocktail hour and being inside the beautiful Kingston Complex.

Neither is a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, but I don't know if you'll find that at Hilton Head either.

Yes Kingston is very nice. If a dirty room was given to anyone, why wouldn't they call to have it cleaned. I enjoyed my stay there very much. it usually gets nice reviews. As Nina says it is not the Ritz or 4 Seasons but neither are the prices. For the money, it is a good bang for the buck.

If you want upscale without the tackiness of MB I suggest you go just south and look at Litchfield Golf and Beach Resort.

Yes, like Kingston, Litchfield Plantation is very nice and removed from the hubbub of MB. It's in a much more low-key area that I personally prefer. If it had as nice a water playground, I'd probably choose it over KP.

And Lori is correct about the prices, you can't beat them.

judy,

I agree with nearly all of the comments made above about KP (and Gretchen's suggestion of Litchfield is a good alternative to MB).

However, I would not dismiss Barefoot Resorts so quickly. Although xxxxx (clever name by the way) is right about the non-ocean-front location of Barefoot Resorts, Judy mentioned only golf and not beach-combing as desired activities.

If being oceanfront is not a requirement, I can offer the following about Barefoot. My wife helped to close all of the condo purchases in the first of 2 (?) luxury towers this summer. The condos are extremely nice, and they are situated behind Barefoot Landing, just across the intra-coastal waterway.

The whole Barefoot community is just getting off the ground, but it has 3 (I believe) new golf courses, and some beautiful homes. The North Myrtle Beach location is great--convenient to most MB attractions and to the golf courses to the north on Highway 9.

Barefoot Resorts is one of perhaps a dozen luxury properties included in a chain that, according to the literature, caters to upscale vacationers. Other properties are in Vail, etc. If the literature is accurate, this property will be somewhat unique for the MB area. At the very least, it will add to the pre-existing best choices: KP, Litchfield and perhaps Ocean Creek (also in NMB).

Have a great time wherever you go!

Chuck, the company you are talking about at Barefoot Resort was the property management company but they pulled out at least 6 months ago. While I agree it is nice, Kingston is much nicer.

I was really not talking about Litchfield "Plantation" which would definitely be very upscale and absolutely beautiful. It is the original plantation house. I was talking about Litchfield by the Sea. There are a variety of accomodations available and of course excellent golfing nearby.

xxx,

The vacation/resort company I was talking about is Premier Resorts. I wasn't aware they are out of business (or not affiliated with Barefoot). They still have an active website that features Barefoot Resorts (under Golf Resorts). Address is: www.premier-resorts.com

Also, I definitely don't want to argue about KP not being the creme de la creme of MB, because it is (especially for an ocean-front resort). But have you seen the rooms in the Barefoot Resorts tower? I think they rival anything at KP (except perhaps for that great ocean view).

I was suggesting BR as an alternative to KP ONLY because Judy was looking for lux accommodations for a golf outing. Didn't mean to knock KP in any way.
