Talk about your small world, gt;, my sister and I are flying to the Berkshires in August, but our plans are just getting started. We don't have a place to stay or a clue where to dine, or any notion about dress code. Is the crowd as old as I've heard (which is just fine with us since we're not in the spring chicken categoy anymore, happy to say). Can you give us one suggestion each, MsHera and Scarlett. You sound well travelled and savy. We're not much for antiquing, being on a fixed income and all. But we do like to browse.

Hey hey hey James T groupies, coooleo. Caught him at Tanglewood, with my parents, a bunch of us. They rent seasonably and tickets to shows are included. So, we went, really they dragged us to see "our generation" of entertainment. I thought my brother was going to barf. When he got into singing when youre down and troubled and you need a helping hand, and nothing is, woah, nothing is going right, hey, that could be the anthem of most of the kids at my school. I can see how the older people posting really get onto JTs act. I'm now thinking of getting some Tonie Bennet songs. Anyway, neat night.

Hellooo Ms Hera!
The worst thing about Tanglewood in the Shed is if it is too hot, which it was, people were wilting all around us!
At least, out on the lawn, you can stretch out on a blanket and drink yourself silly.
I usually don't care that much how the view of the stage is because it is music, dance is a different story altogether!
Jacobs Pillow has free dance performances all the time, try to catch one of those also!
We will be there Aug 22-26.
Restaurants:
Lenox has a wonderful Bistro called Zinc, veeerryy good.
Great Barrington has
Pearl, lots of meat, I enjoyed their seared tuna steaks.
Vurdura, Tuscan, make reservations asap.
Union something, really cool and industrial looking, good crowd, good food.
Vivianis, Italian, small, homey and good food.
A new Indian place opened and a Thai place that I missed. I love the Old Mill so we eat there often. Can't live without their bread puddings!
Prices are anything BUT reasonable up there in the summer. We walk around with a sign on our backs that says, Tourist-Take me all that I have.
I like it better off season, cooler, easier to get around and prices drop, but then a lot of places close.
I hope this helps some, whatever you do, I am sure you will enjoy it.
Suzanne-that is so cool that you saw James Taylor and enjoyed it so much. Your lil brother will have good stories to tell also

Scarlet, not my little brother, gt;, he's about to turn 25. I dont know if youve ever had a kid who couldn't look at a car without getting sick. Frankie is that way. On dirt roads we put him up on the hood or fender and go slow. It saves time because we dont have to stop.

MsHera does not do hot, so lawn it is. I have heard about very very elaborate picnics with a certain snob element in decor. We will do our best to uphold tradition. I also hear it is a very well heeled crowd. Yes?

You will be there for the first annual Wine and Food Festival at the Shed. Here's a description from their website: "...premium wines from over 100 vintners including wines from the leading producing regions of the world. Also feast on fabulous artisan breads, smoked meats, foie gras and other specialty foods. Renowned chefs demonstrate their skills while answering questions and sharing kitchen secrets during hourly demonstrations throughout the day." It could be nice but some we have been to have far too few stations for the number of participants. Hopefully they will do it up right.

I did not realize anything was free in that area. Is Jacobs Pillow far from the mainstream? We will make a point of seeing at least one performance.

I have copied off your list of recommended restaurants. Thank you so much for helping me out! Any other must dos?
