>>Jeanne d'Arc is fully booked for Bastille Day. will I have problems trying to get into other French restaurants on the 14th too?<<
Try Le Zinc in the Noe Valley on 24th st (Take the J-Church Muni Metro there), or Hyde St Bistro on Hyde (take the cable car there).

I just need to let you know that French restaurants were absolutely impossible to get into on Bastille Day! We ended up at Cafe Claude--I don't know HOW--but you needed prior reservations or the big burly security guard would not let you in. A little woman was yelling & swearing in French at the guy for not doing so!!
The Irish Bank (a pub nearby) had a huge block party for Bastille day. And the nearby internet cafe, Golden Gate Perk, celebrated Bastille Day with $5 beers and Korean BBQ. I asked, "Korean BBQ on a French holiday?" and the young man behind the counter excitedly replied, "Yes, did you know that Korean barbecue is supposed to be the best kind of barbecue in the world?"
San Francisco celebrates diversity, I guess!!

I forgot to add that I made it to Jeanne d'Arc on July 13th. It was pretty empty although they had started decorating for Bastille Day. $30 for a four course meal, such a steal. I need to warn you that although the lamb shank is very good, it was SO heavy that I literally thought I was going to fall asleep during the entree! The orange souffle, however, made up for it in lightness. Dreamy. Service is good, food is good, what more can you ask for when looking for a good deal?
