my husband and I will be going to Oahu (Waikiki area) from the UK we would like to indulge in one of our favorite pastimes, buying cds at nearly half the UK price.
Where is the best music store on Oahu?

Tower Records, a national chain, probably has the most selection and favorable prices. Nearest in Waikiki would be behind Ala Moana Shopping center on Keeaumoku and Kapiolani.

Tower is good, and there is also one at Kahala mall. Borders at Ward Warehouse has a great selection. Circuit city is quite a ways from Waikiki (in Pearlridge), but has the best prices.

Usually they are about $15, I think. Or you could go to Costco, as CDs there often cost just $10 or $11.

Coscto is a membership store. they carry everything: food, jewelry, books, computers, wine, electronics, film and refrigerators, clothing, contact lenses, gas, office supplies, fresh flowers, souvenirs, and much more.
The prices are terrific, and you can sometimes save the membership fee on one big ticket item. Only problem is that many of the items, the food in particular, come in HUGE sizes. You can't buy one roll of film or one toothbrush...you have to get six of them. Of course those six will cost the same as 3 anywhere else. The selection may be limited or may be not quite the latest version in the case of electronics, but with the high cost of living in Hawaii, Costco is a godsend.

Yeah, you can always spot us hawaii people at the airport security checks...we have the suitcase full of stuff that was so cheap we had to buy and carry it home!
Actually, our economy has been so bad for so many years and we have so many discount places now that even I have quit buying paper towels on the mainland.

Linda, I believe you have Costco in the UK. I remember spotting a few of them when we were over last year. I wonder if the membership is universal?

Can anyone recommend a good used CD place on Oahu? This is a fun pastime for us while traveling too, and the nonchain places are interesting for finding local music.
