Moving to Helena

Can any Helena residents (current or former) give me some info on living there? I will possibly be moving from a major metropolitan area, and am looking forward to a smaller town and being closer to hiking and mountains. With no friends or family in the area, I am particularly wondering how challenging/easy it is to meet people, especially other hikers/snowshoers, etc.
Thanks!

Try attending a Helena Outdoor Club meeting or just hike up Mt Helena and you're bound to meet friendly hikers.

Thanks. Are there many people in their 20s and 30s in Helena?

If you're interested in Art, (fabulous pottery), check out the Archie Brae Foundation. There are a lot of very interesting artists and other fascinating people associated with it.

Helena is a great town and a well-kept secret. It will be easy for you to get involved with people that love the things you love. The people involved with the Prickly Pear Land Trust and the outdoor club, running club, etc. And there is a lot of culture here (live theatre, museums, the Archie Bray, the symphony) The 20's and 30's population is growing. Can you come for a visit before making your decision? The summers here are beautiful and I'm sure we could find plenty of people to show you around.

Unfortunately, I won't have time to visit before making the decision, but your information has made it easier to picture Helena! The access to the mountains and the culture in the town sound wonderful. Thank you.

We are also interested in moving to Helena, Mt.

What has us confused is looking at all the real estate listings which tell us Upper west side, Upper east side, lower WS ES, central valley, in town outside of town--and on and on! We have not yet talked to an agent, I just wanted to ask if there are Helena locals here--can you fill us in on the differences between these areas? I have a 2 yr old and so I am also researching the schools. he will be going in a few short years. I want to figure out where we can live that is in the school dist I want to send him into. This is all very confusing as there are helena sch dist, east helena, west helena sc dist!!!! AGHGHGHGH. help. We'd really appreciate any brutally honest opinions on the various demographics of each place. We notice that our dollar would go very far there- but we cannot tell if there are enclaves or tiers of income levels there like there are here- in CA. in Ca you can live on a great street, but one street over is he** with lots of crime. we want to know what the differences are here. We will of course be asking the agency these questions. Thank you! Mrs. Johnson
