My daughter and I are spending five days/four nights in NYC this spring. We are looking for a clean, safe, reasonably-priced hotel. Any suggestions?

I suggest you give your exact dates, number of beds needed and budget in USDs

How old is your daughter? What are your interests and what's at the top of your list to see? Do you plan to go to Broadway shows? And per the previous poster, what's your budget?

We only recommend dirty, dangerous places.

Reasonable can mean very different things. We need a specific amount per night and if you can share one double or queen bed - the usual configuration in NYC hotel rooms. Also it would help to know how old your daughter is and interests of both of you.

That said there are many hundreds of hotels so it would help to know if we should focus on a specific area. Will you be doing lots of broadway shows or any activities beyond the usual sightseeing?

We are 42 and 62 years old. We will be in the city from April 22nd to the 26th. So far, our plans include a walking tour of Central Park, a food tour of Greenwich village, a visit to Chelsea Market, Fifth Avenue shopping, perhaps a sunset cruise, and definitely a Broadway show or two. (Any recommendations?) To be more specific about the hotel cost, $300 a night. We will definiely look into the Park South. Thanks!

Well since you don;t seem to be interested in any of the major uptown museums - and have sights focused primarily in midtown and downtown I would focus on midtown away from Times Square (which is incredibly mobbed and often quite unpleasant) for hotels.

You should find a number of hotels for that rate. I notice there is a Doubletree on Lexington Ave (near the subways at 53rd and 51st Sts) for about $235 plus tax - and it might provide more room than some of the other hotels.

I like the Hampton Inn Times Square North. Not in the craziness of TS, but close and would be a good location for the things you want to do. Larger rooms than most in NYC for a 2 bedded room. Free breakfast.

Try The Hotel Beacon, upper west side. They have great suites.

In reference to Broadway - several shows closed this weekend. Several that were extended are now closing in Feb while other houses start to reopen in Feb. Here's a link to some of the Spring openings:

How about the Casablanca Hotel Times Square? We recently stayed here and while it was certainly in the thick of all the action it was peaceful and welcoming inside. Easy access to all the theaters. Great character to the hotel but the rooms are well maintained. Liked the lounge with wine and cheese in the evenings.

I would stay anywhere...before I would stay around Times Square...

Sorry, but "around Times Square" is too big area to dismiss out of hand. I know locals avoid TS, but it's convenient for tourists. No one is suggesting setting up a tent in its epicenter!
