A coastguard cottage with a view of the outer Hebrides on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I rented it through Hotel Duntulm near the castle Duntulm. Great walks, food, scotch and beer every day.

Another good spot was the Barltlett Lodge in Algonquin Park in Canada. Had to take a canoe to get to the lodge.

Eremo Guadio in Lago di Como (Varenna) meant taking a cable car elevator up the side of the hill to get to the hotel, which used to be a hermitage. Had fabulous view of Lake Como.

The lighthouse at Two Harbors MN, about 40 miles above Duluth. Go to www.lighthousebb.org. There are three rooms in the lighthouse. And in the morning, someone comes in to cook the breakfast....

And don't forget to lower the flag in the evening.
