Very probably not in the US.

Everything in Switz is very expensive - so I would have a look at the very exclusive winter resorts there. Or you might try the French Riviera in season (esp film festival).

It also depends on if you are talking about a basic room - or want a large suite.

Are you looking to stay in it? If so, I hope you have lots of $.

In NYC the upscale hotels in high season (between Thanksgiving and close to Christmas - or New Year's Eve) will be abotu $1000 per night.

Sorry - if you look at :

http://en-maktoob.news.yahoo.com/pho...572-slideshow/

It has a list of some very upscale resorts - starting at about 2500 per night. But if you have that kind of money to spend I would think you need a very upscale travel agent (at large cost) to help you sort them out.

I hate to be picky -- but do you mean the most expensive overall -- average room price plus cost of amenities? Or do you mean simply the most expensive individual hotel suite in the world? There could be a big difference between the two.
May I ask which lotto you won?

That is a great list nytraveler!!

5 of the most expensive hotels in the world are in Sardinia!
Followed by 3 hotels in Maldives.

The 5th most expensive hotel in the world is in Bhutan!

Another surprising place is Cambodia.

Australia has a 3 on the list (Lizard Island, Kangaroo Island, and Cole's Bay).

Only one is Japan!

Only one is in Europe (Lombardy, Italy)

Also - most of these are resorts - and part of the price is all of the amenities - and the fact that all lodgings are suites or villas.

Not sure I would put these in the same category as "hotels".

Well, hotel or resort - if you rented Sir Richard Bransom's Necker island - it could set you back a pretty penny, eh? see: http://www.neckerisland.virgin.com/

Wow that was a fast rebuild. Seems like just yesterday Kate Winslet carried Branson's mum on her back saving her from fire and brimstone that destroyed the main house.

I rarely trust any of the "top" anything. Too often floored by some that aren't more than a 3* that aren't more than a stop above a Motel 6.

Even the Burj al Arab in Dubai isn't listed and is claimed to be a 7* (really, a 7* really), or the Singita properties in South Africa and/or Tanzania, which prices are almost $2K person per night, all inclusive!

As all things, are you looking 'just' for a room, a suite or a villa? And, regardless the price listed which invariably is the 'rack' rate, can often be had for less.

NYtraveler,

Actually most of the places on your list seem to be just hotel rooms. A few are suites and some are resorts but it seems to be just a hotel room.

>>The survey compared luxury hotels across the globe and then ranked them based on their average rates for a standard double room between June and August 2012 summer season. The rates listed are based on the average price for a standard double room in dollars.>>
